“Best Home Away From Home!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Due to a long project I lived away from home in St. John's for most of 2011 and will for at least 2-3 months in 2012. The hotel my agent put me in is the Murray Premises. The rooms are beautiful, the breakfast is good, the staff are personable and efficient, the housekeeping is exceptional and the location is in the heart of everything. I walk everywhere and have a great after work life within minutes of my hotel. Recently I moved from the hotel proper to the long-stay rooms owned by Murray Premises and my little 'apartment' has truly become a home away from home. I've even had guests over! The manager and the cleaning staff make sure I'm well taken care of. I have stayed in other hotels in St. John's but I won't be staying anywhere else now that I've found this hotel.

“Exceptional”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

My wife and I had an escape night planned, I had heard many good things about the Murray, so we decided this would be perfect for us.

The hotel is located downtown, within walking distance to shopping, restaurants, and many attractions, which was very convenient for us to just walk out the door and enjoy our night.

The entire Staff were professional, courteous and knowledgeable, providing assistance at all times, when asked.

The room was very clean and in excellent condition, This was an executive suite with all amenities including king size bed, fireplace, and jacuzzi tub. The atmosphere was quiet for those who would require a good nights sleep.

Our escape night was wonderful, and we feel The Murray Premises will be our choice for all our escape nights

“My Favorite hotel in St. John's”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

I should start this review out by admitting I have a soft spot in my heart for the Murray Premises. I fly with the US Air Force and we often stop in St. John's and rush the desk at odd hours of the night, whenever we get in. And let me tell you, when you stumble in half-frozen, exhausted, dragging your overnight bag while you shake the snow off, there is no better feeling than walking into the Murray Premises, getting to your room, finding a beer waiting, and laying down for the evening. Trust me when I tell you that our schedules put the staff way out as they try to accommodate us, and they have never been anything but gracious and understanding.

The hotel's strongest points are rustic charm and location. Some do not like the slanted ceilings of the rooms on the upper floors, and to each their own, but I love the look of this hotel. The rooms have electric fireplaces in them and comfortable beds. The bathrooms are always spotless. Did I mention the complimentary beers in the room? You feel like you're in a log cabin, but in a good way. So like I said, the charm of this hotel makes it easily my favorite in St. John's.

The location is great too. In the winter you get a great view across the water as soon as you walk out of the hotel. Right across Water St. is a phenomenal steak place (though it's a little pricey) and bars, restaurants, and other attractions are within walking distance even in the dead cold of winter. The price is up there, but I would contend that for a 3 or 4 day vacation, it's well worth it. We usually go out to eat with the crew, but the restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel is pretty tasty too.

In short, I not only would, but plan to stay at the Murray Premises again. If I don't go back for business, I may go back for leisure. If you can afford this hotel, you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: If you WANT a room with a pitched ceiling, the 4th floor is what you want. Bear in mind that the el...

“DON'T STAY HERE IF YOU WANT TO SLEEP”

This is an old run-down hotel in St. Johns. There are much nicer places to stay for your money. The rooms on the 3rd floor are in the attic of the building, slanted ceilings make the room much smaller than the floor area. I spent my time in my room ducking down for fear of hitting my head on the rafters. Now for tne worst part, the hotel is located about 1 block from where all of the bars and clubs are. There is very loud noise that kept me up more than half the night. What a major dissapointment. Rooms are dirty and stink, the carpet is dingey and in need of repalcement. I should have stayed at the Delta instead.

Room Tip: Pick a different hotel like the Delta

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. While it's obvious you did not enjoy your stay with us, I do want to take the time to clarify a few things. Our hotel is only 10 years old (first opened in 2001 with 28 rooms), and we are proud of the fact we are located in a wonderful heritage structure that is 166 years old. We are also very proud of the work we've done to build this wonderful boutique hotel in the heart of downtown. Our 3rd and 4th floors offer slanted ceilings with original exposed beams, again, this is the architectural design of the building and we have worked hard to ensure it's key features add character and warmth to our guestrooms, most of our guests find it quite cozy because of its charm. In March 2011, all of the guestrooms on the 3rd and 4th floor were renovated with new carpets, bedding and upholstery, this followed an extensive addition to the hotel in January 2010 when we added 20 additional rooms bringing total inventory to 67 guestrooms. Located in the heart of downtown, we are in walking distance to restaurants, business district and nightlife, however, rarely do we receive complaints of noise from George Street as the many buildings between there and the hotel block the sound. We certainly hope you give the hotel another try in the future.
Thanks!
