“My Suitcase is Bigger Than My Room-- Too Small to Believe”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2010

The room was smaller than our luggage. Unfriendly signs warned that shoes couldn't be worn in the house, and when my husband needed paper to print our airplane tickets, he was given a single sheet of paper to print 4 boarding passes. The most unfriendly, tiny place I have ever stayed. You couldn't even sit on the toilet normally because the bathroom wall sloped down to prevent you sitting upright and forward. The bathroom was smaller than most people's closets. I wish someone had warned me that the only good thing about the place is the view and the A/C. I will not go back unless I shrink to child size, because only a child could fit in that room.

“Quiet, clean, super location and 1/2 the price of the downtown hotels”

The place had total privacy and was deadly quiet. I parked directly in front of the door which put us 15 feet from the entry. We loved the semi circle wall in our bedroom and the sunrise over the Atlantic. Went back to sleep and made our own breakfast at 11:00

“Misleading Ower, disappointment overall..."”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2009

I just wanted to say that I'm pretty disappointed in my experience with the Balmoral House. The place itself was very pretty although when we arrived it was empty and pretty lonely for my elderly mother to stay in. We were there because my dad was taken to the hospital from the Western side of the Island. Her room was on the very top and she felt to isolated in case she needed me and I was downstairs. When I called to ask if it was ok that we went somewhere else, somewhere that she would feel more comfortable the owner said it was fine and nothing would be charged on my card. I thought that was great and got her a cozy place with people coming and going that provided a little more company for her while I was in the hospital caring for my father. When I arrived home I noticed that he charged my card anyways and when I called to ask him about it he said that nothing would be charged that day that I called but that he didn't agree not to charge it later. It was so bizarre and misleading. I called again to ask if he could reverse the charges as it wasn't what I thought he agreed to when we talked. I've now called over 8 times and he has still not done anything. He won't even return my call. I know that people give reviews, but I honestly had the best time in Newfoundland and the people were amazing overall...I just think people should know about dishonest business.

“Excellent location, clean quiet and comfortable”

I delayed booking a hotel in St. John's. Didn't count on the Prince of Wales being there and that all the downtown Hotels would be booked. I couldn't get a car rental either. I called around and managed to get the Balmoral Inn, located on Queen's Road. Must be a B&B alley as it is all historic mansions or Inns. I had planned to spend a night until hotel space opened up but it was so lovely I ended up staying for a full week. Quiet and clean and no fuss or bother. I got up when I felt like it and had my breakfast when I felt like it and crawled into an inviting bed when I felt like it. No elevators, banging doors, or people ogling me. From now on I will check out B&B's as a first option rather than as the last option. Met the owner Kim one afternoon and her beautiful daughter Victoria. The young couples were really sweet.

“An excellent B & B”

I love Balmoral Inn in St. John's, NL...nestled on an old city street in downtown St. John's with a spectacular view of the beautiful St. John's Harbour. The Inn is very tastefully and beautifully decorated; the hosts are friendly and seem to enjoy meeting the needs of their guests. David & Kim take great pride in offering a great place to stay away from home.
