“Best Location...But Needs A Face Lift...We got the "bums rush"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

First of all you cannot beat this hotel when staying in st.johns. A Minutes walk from mile one centre, and a stones throw from an abundance of bars and restraurants in historic downtown st.johns. The hotel itself inside is in big need of some renovations. Our room has cracked drywall on the ceiling in multiple places, the shower head was ready to fall off, dings and dents in the walls, just an overall general state of being worn out from years of guests. The elevators however are a different story, Just plain rotten inside. Although they had signs up saying it was due to labor issues with their elevator company it was still very very shabby looking. Although none of this affected our stay or sleep quality when you pay almost $200 a night you would expect much better. The front desk staff were fine and the room was clean overall. The day we left however was a different story, being delta privilage club members you get the option of late check in/out. We were watching TV and one of the hotel staff per just opened our door (never knocked) looked at us and asked when we were checking out. No hello or sorry for intruding, I really DID not like this at all, especially the part where she just barged in. Im big on privacy and expect privacy no matter where i stay, I do not like when hotel staff just barge in your asking you when you are leaving. Kind of made us feel like we were getting the " bums rush" to leave.

“Great smoking room with a harbour view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Room was big, comfortable and clean. View was fantastic. Location was wonderful. Staff excellent. Restaurant good. Nothing to complain about and loved the city as well. First time family vacation to Newfoundland. One of our best trips and hope to return someday. This was late July/early August of 2011...sorry, just getting around to the review now. Weather a bit cool and some morning drizzle but not bad for St. John's! As a previous reviewer commented, surprised a hotel would have smoking rooms in 2011. As a smoker myself, I was surprised but also pleased and booked immediately. 7 night stay...2 nights in non smoking and then moved to smoking for the remaining 5 nights. I would agree that non smoking rooms are nicer and more updated but for me, I would take a more "tired" room if it means I do not have to leave the room and sit on a hard bench in the fog to have a cigarette. Did this for 2 days and that was enough for me. Delta made our trip that much more enjoyable and I would highly recommend it to both smokers and non smokers, drunks and tea totallers, health nuts and junk food junkies... it's takes all kinds to make the world go round!

Room Tip: Ask for a Harbour View room. Smoking rooms also available.

I spent 5 nights at this hotel. The room is big and the bed very confortable. The bathroom was very clean. The hotel is not far from a lot of restaurants and bars in the heart of St. John's.

“Comfortable but needs work”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Spent two night in Jan. and left with mixed feelings. The front desk service and concierge was excellent for both check-in and check-out. The location is great as near George street. The hotel staff were polite, and the bed was comfortable and the room clean.

But the hotel room needs some sprucing up. While there has been an attempt to update, the bathtub was old and chipped, the closet door looked like it was put together by an amateur, and the fridge (while welcome) was terribly noisy...so I simply pulled the plug. Slipped into the restaurant one mornng for a quick coffee, but after 10 minutes of not getting served...got up and left. And finally, the coffee maker was not cleaned after my 1st night's stay.

None of these problems are major and I would probably stay there again, just don't expect luxury.
