On one hand, this place isn't bad. The rooms are reasonably clean, the location isn't great but it isn't bad and breakfast was okay. But on the other hand, the hospitality you receive counters all the positives. I think the owner has the best of intentions but his brusque manner is a problem - at least it was to the six people in our party. When checking in, he quoted a higher price than originally agreed and when we told him this, he immediately offered to drop the price. Made you wonder if this is standard practice. There was absolutely no customer service and you got the impression you were an annoyance to the owner. Instead of a polite "let me show you to your room", you got a "follow me". I was led to a room off of the breakfast room which was rather strange. The room itself was fine and luckily we planned to be up early so I wasn't woken by the early breakfast guests - what would you do if you wanted a lie in? Breakfast was another opportunity to be bossed around by the owner and in the end, we were relieved to leave the place. There has to be a better place to stay in Saint John.
