“Average Hilton, with great views”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

Stayed here recently for a trade show that was over at Harbour station, while the rooms have been recently updated (which are great) the bar is undergoing renovations the hotel lobby/elevators are showing their age.

Air conditioning/heater system here i've found has always made a lot of noise, been staying here for many years.

Hotel was built very close to the Harbour in Saint John and offers great views of the Bay of Fundy if you have a room on that side of the hotel.

Perry one of the bartenders for over 20 years does a great job and I suggest if your looking for some great company stop by and have a drink and or dinner with their great food fare.

Hotel was overbooked and as a Diamond Hilton member was not given any room upgrades and received what I booked. There is no lounge at this property but I did receive two free bottles of water (in room, did not get replenished over my multiday stay) and a daily continental breakfast coupon. (5.00$ upgraded to the full buffet with smoked salmon)

Pool is very small and is in the basement (did not use)

Room Tip: Ask for harbour view room at check in.

“Not up to Hilton Standards”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012 via mobile

Stayed here on business, good location with underground parking, however not what I expected from a Hilton. The rooms are COLD, the heaters cant keep up and run constantly, best I could get was about 71 degrees at night in my room. The first room I had didnt have heat at all so I had to move. The water from the sink and bath is visibly brown assumingly from rust in the old pipes? If you fill the bathtub up the water is so bad you cant use it. Homeless take refuse from the cold in the lower level with no security to to keep them out. Door to the underground garage and pedway allows anyone in. The pool area is a mess tucked away in the corner of the basement, the hot tub seems to have been walled off for some time and is no longer an amenity contrary to the website. The pedway to Market Center is not heated and smells badly of cigarette smoke. Hopefully Hilton will invest in this property and bring it back up to their standards.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are happy that you found the hotel location convenient.
We are genuinely apologetic for the water issues you experienced. It is true that on occasion, due to aging infrastructure in the city (hotel water is supplied by main Saint John city water line), rust discolouration occurs. Please accept that while unsightly, the hotel has installed its own filters to ensure it is completely safe for consumption. The automatic doors from the 'pedway' system and from the main underground parking area lock automatically at 11pm, after which time entry is only possible with a guest room key. The hotel does have on-site security agents to patrol the building as of 11pm.
We are pleased to inform you that the fitness area is to be fully remodelled beginning early March. This is the final phase of our 4m remodelling project which also involves new Bistro/Cocktail lounge (beginning February 8th and opening early April ), and the interior of both guest elevators. This is an exciting project and trust you will be impressed by both the look and functionality of the fitness area upon your next visit.
We apolgise once again and thank you for your loyalty during this period of transition. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you as our guest again in the near future. Kindest regards, Dermot

“Nice view of harbour - comfortable beds but dirty elevator and workout room.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My husband and I stayed 2 nights and found the hotel nice. Check in was simple and the room was large, though oddly shaped (rm 702). The king bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The tv and lounge chair were positioned so you had to move them around to use them, though it wasn't a big issue.

The elevators were not clean, however. The floor tiles were cracked and the second door scraped when it opened and closed, causing scratching and ripping of the vinyl inner covering of the door. Also, and to me the worst, was the brass on the elevator by the buttons was very dirty and stained from liquids being dropped or sloshed around - neither option was very good. I hated touching the buttons with anything but my sleeve.

There is a workout room that is fairly good sized with a number of cardio machines and a universal type machine. The lighting was poor - lightbulbs were out in 2 places, leaving 'mood lighting' for a workout and the floor was dirty - not swept or mopped at all - I got dirty hands from my stretching routine. The locked temperature box stayed at about 21 C in the room, which became very hot during the workout due to no moving air at all! There were vent exchanges, but no air moving and no fans. Hopefully no one overheats and passes out, because there are no windows to look into the room, only thick wall glass type bricks that no one would ever be able to see in. While there, a housekeeper came in, took the dirty towels and left, never looking at the floors or anything.

There is a restaurant in the hotel that we tried to use but couldn't. On Sunday, we tried to go there for a brunch/meal. We arrived at 1050 am and were told it closed at 1100am, but the lounge served food. We found it odd that a restaurant closed at 1100 on a weekend, then went to the lounge to find no breakfast food. Fortunately the concierge told us we could use the pedways to get to Cora's for food.

The best thing about the hotel is its proximity to the pedways for downtown area. We used them to eat out and see some of the city in the cold winter air.

Overall, not sure if we would stay here again. If the price was right and we didn't want to use the facilities (restaurant, workout room), perhaps - there is a Delta among the pedways to stay downtown too.

Thank you for your review. We are pleased that you enjoyed your King bed Harbour View room and thank you for your positive comments on its cleanliness. We apologise sincerely for the condition of the elevator and the fitness room. We are currently in the final phase of our 4m remodelling project, the last phase of which involves complete refit of the guest elevators (late february) and renovation of the fitness centre (early March). All bedrooms have been remodelled and also the lounge bar renovation begins February 8th. Upon your return you will no longer experience the elevator and fitness centre problems you incurred in January. The restaurant/lounge remodelling will be complete by end of March and our new Bistro and cocktail lounge will allow all day dining from early breakfast to late night, all in one location. Thank you for your loyalty during this time of remodelling and we hope to welcome you back as our guest in the near future. Safe travels! Dermot

My trip was for business, easy check in. I was impressed with the service I recieved when I arrived. I was looking around for a restaurant and wanted to have breakfast it was late afternoon, I was on a different time zone. The Manager requested the lobby restraunt to make me whatever I wanted. (French Toast) Very impressive. The room with a Bay view was very nice, beds comfortable room service excellent. You can access malls etc. right from hotel . I held my seminar downstairs and service and food was excellent. Would I stay again? Yes!

Room Tip: Get room with Bay view!

“Nice location, good service, nice room, not so good service at breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

I was at this hotel with a co-worker for a business trip. Checking in was quick and efficient. My room was on the fifth floor, on the bay side, really quiet, nice furniture, very comfy bed, you could tell it has been renovated. The only problem I have encountered was the slow service at breakfast. I don't feel you'll complain about the service if you opt for the buffet, but we did not really want to have a heavy breakfast that morning so we decided to order from the menu.

It took us a long time after we were seated to get the server's attention to finally order from the menu. Because I had a meeting and feared about being late, I asked for the check when we got our food. I put my credit card in sight so the server could see it and charge it....she never came. I got fed up of waiting and ended up charging it to my room. That totally ruined my plan to check out from the room and quickly leave the hotel to attend my meeting. I had to check out from the front desk to get my final bill. If I had not been there travelling on business, I would probably not have the same comments about the service. One more thing, the charge 14$ for wi-fi in your room, but it's free in the lobby. But still, this service should be offered, like in many other business hotels.
