Normally we avoid Econolodge like the plague. Almost every one we have tried has been dirty, coming apart, e.g., wall paper hanging down, etc. When we got to Saint John the Econolodge was the only place in our price range (prices in Canada seem to be much higher than in the US) so we gave it a try. What a gem. The rooms were large (really suites), well maintained, and clean. The breakfast was above average (and they had real plates and cutlery). There was no television blaring in the breakfast room. Indeed, classical music was being played.

We stayed one night going and one night returning on our trip from Maryland to Nova Scotia. This motel is whistle clean, smoke free, and eco-friendly. The room was spacious and comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. It is a true oasis of good value. It is a shining star, especially compared to the nightmare we experienced in Bar Harbor, ME, the night before.

This hotel was clean and quiet and the rooms were a nice size. However, the neighborhood it's in is a little rough and it was very expensive for an Econo Lodge. They charge more for every person staying in the room including children so for a family of 4 like us it was $120 a night.

The "free" breakfast is pretty bad also.

I wouldn't stay here again unless I had to although I doubt I'll ever visit St John again.

This is where our stopover landed us. The room was small and up some steep and narrow steps. Not too good for older folks. It was clean and fair priced. Had wi-fi and coffee maker. Also a free breakfast that was on the first floor. We were on the 3rd floor. Overall not bad but not great either.
