We stayed here two nights on our Canadian adventure. The room was five minutes away from Reversing Falls and was clean and comfortable. We booked an efficiency and the room was quite large.

Excellent for an Econo Lodge.

This is the first Econo Lodge I've ever stayed at so I didn't know what to expect. I had read lots of bad reviews about other Econo Lodges but this one seemed to get great reviews. After staying here, I'm guessing that the good reviews were given because the hotel/motel compared favourably to other Econo Lodges, Super 8s, Motel 6s... and not your average hotel.

The motel looks rundown from the outside and wasn't what I was expecting. There's a funeral home next door and a cemetary across the street with lots of seedy people waiting (for a bus maybe?). The room was large but it was very outdated. I think the microwave had one of the old dial timers rather than the digital displays you see on microwaves made in the last 20 years. The room came with a refrigerator and a kitchen sink. The bathroom seems to have been renovated recently.

There's free parking and free Wi-fi but the Wi-fi was slow and only worked intermittently. They offer a free continental breakfast but it had the poorest selection that I've seen. Our room had an apartment air conditioning unit but it sent in more hot air than cold.

I would stay here again since it wasn't dirty but I was very disappointed since I was expecting so much more.

We stayed one night before taking the ferry to Digby. The hotel is very convenient for the ferry. Our room was quite large and clean, the bed was comfortable and there was a coffee maker in the room. The bathroom had a good shower and was well equipped. We checked in on one level and went down one flight of stairs to our room which had a back door too which opened out to where we could park our car. We found the staff efficient and doing their best to give us good customer service. The breakfast was a nice bonus, muffins, bagels, waffles, toast, juice, coffee etc.
The only drawback is all the construction going on in St John so even with our GPS we kept getting lost so we settled for the pizza restaurant in the little plaza across from the hotel.

Normally we avoid Econolodge like the plague. Almost every one we have tried has been dirty, coming apart, e.g., wall paper hanging down, etc. When we got to Saint John the Econolodge was the only place in our price range (prices in Canada seem to be much higher than in the US) so we gave it a try. What a gem. The rooms were large (really suites), well maintained, and clean. The breakfast was above average (and they had real plates and cutlery). There was no television blaring in the breakfast room. Indeed, classical music was being played.
