We went ahead and stayed at this hotel on the recommendation of one family member. Having never heard of it before, we were prepared to take what the place offered regardless of how well or how little it met with our usual expectations (which are quite reasonable).
What a pleasant surprise to discover that the location, service, and amenities at the Norwood were well within our needs - good quality housekeeping, pleasant colours, and helpful, pleasant, and accommodating staff. The in-house restaurant menu provided adequate and well-prepared choices (I loved the quesadilla), along with a buffet which seemed to be available at almost any time. It was nice that if we were too tired to go anywhere else, the hotel restaurant was a totally acceptable choice.
The Norwood 's location is ideal for anyone who needs to be close to the St. Boniface hospital (only 2 blocks away). But it offers more than this. It is close to the Dominion Mall and to several very good restaurants and coffee shops. From the Norwood, it is an easy walk across a bridge and along the river to The Forks - a popular destination situated where the Red and Assiniboine rivers meet. One could easily spend a day at The Forks and never go hungry or bored - there is a public market, food stalls, restaurants, galleries and shops.
