“Going Downhill”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2011

Stayed here as I had an early morning flight out the next day and it was close to the airport for a good price. This hotel is fast getting tired. The carpet is worn out everywhere, the wood trim around the windows is cracked and falling off, and all features of the hotel are at the end of their useful lifespan. Towels are getting worn pretty thin and the elevator is painfully slow. The hotel has started catering towards people from the North who travel for medical appointments on the government's dime. So there were plenty of somewhat questionable people sporting gang colours just loitering throughout the hotel and sitting on every chair and bench they could find. The business centre was full of kids on facebook, and there was no decorum enforced by hotel staff. It was an early flight so I retired for the night early, but was kept awake by kids running up and down the halls well past midnight. Restaurant food was good, as was the service and the prices were fair. The pool was closed for renovations, and I never went to the fitness centre. They provide transport to the airport by putting you in a cab with a voucher, so this was very convenient. If you're travelling on business for more than one night, I would reccommend somewhere else. Beds were comfy and the free wifi was very nice.

Room Tip: As far from elevators as possible. Less kids runng

In response to the noted review, our hotel was at the beginning of our renovation and refreshening as it is now 10 years old. We had planned a complete makeover of the ground level of the hotel including all meeting and ballrooms by the end of the summer and we are on pace to have that accomplished. Room renovations were to begin in June of this year.

As a direct result of the massive flooding disaster in Manitoba this spring, the occupancy of many Winnipeg hotels has increased dramatically to help accommodate displaced families from affected communities. Many have lost their homes and lives have been placed in turmoil. Our hotel has displaced flood evacuee families who have no home at this time due to the disaster. Many of these guests have children and at times they are around the hotel. We have full time trained security and front desk employees conducting hotel property walk abouts to ensure proper hotel decorum is followed. There has not been and never will be, a tolerance of any "gang" activity at this hotel. Any interpretation of the way young people dress as gang related, is an individual perception. Our front desk staff are located in the the middle of our front lobby and are diligent in both their observations and duties.

We have guests staying at our hotel from all over the world. Some of these guests are from the north. They are all well behaved, paying clients who have booked at our hotel while on government travel status. Our hotel is a welcoming envionment to all travellers worldwide. We maintain high hotel standards and will continue to work hard to provide excellent client service and overall customer satisfaction.

“fair airport hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2011

Right beside the airport, the hotel pays for cabs to and from the airport. Seems to have aged a bit in the past few years. Helpful front desk. $150/night.
In terms of conference hosting, large banquet room for the plenary, ok accoustics/ sound. Quite small rooms for the break-outs. They did a couple of meals: a buffet style lunch that had enough variety to please most people and plated baked chicken that left everybody at my table complaining.

Our Greenwood Inn and Suites is currently one month into a full renovation and refreshening of the Winnipeg Property. Our Dalton's Restuarant and full service lounge will be re-opened on April 4th. There will be a complete makeover of the ground level of the hotel including all meeting and ballrooms by the end of August 2011. Room renovations will begin in June of this year. This will keep our 10 year old hotel property fresh and competetive. Feedback on the banquet catering will be shared with our Food and Beverage Department as we continually seek client input to allow us to always improve our service and product.

“Great if you don't need any help from the Front Desk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

Okay, first hint - run the water for about 10 minutes if you are wanting hot water for a shower on the top floor - it takes forever to get there. Once it came it was nice as there were 2 heads in the shower!
This is a nice, clean hotel and clean is important. The room was well appointed. Our room looked right over the parking lot in front and we did not hear a thing - so its also nice and quiet. By the way, free parking - some hotels in the area near the airport charge a seperate fee to park - so ask when booking.
We could not get an answer from the front desk once we checked in. The first time it rang and rang and finally someone from the restaurant answered. The second time no answer at all. We called for a wake-up call the 3rd try - as I had to get to the airport early in the morning. Although she said yes it was done - the next morning no wake-up call to be had. Thank God for cell phones with alarm clocks.
So we had wanted to get some smaller pillows from the front desk as the ones we had were huge. (Nice and luxurious but too big to sleep on.) No luck there. We wanted to get some Advil but they have none of that kind of stuff available. I went to Superstore a couple blocks away and BOUGHT a pillow and some Advil cause I was tired of the hassle and the front desk was always too busy.
Pool area very basic and utilitarian, and you have to walk thru the lobby to get to it. The hot tub had a bit of crud at the edges of the water but you could tell someone had cleaned the whole pool area thoroughly.
Good value for the price overall for a work trip or a one-night pre-airport stay if you don't really do pools and hot tubs anyway.

“Good hotel overall”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2010

I recently stayed at the Greenwood in Winnipeg while traveling for business.

>The location was close to where my meetings were being held, and is close to the airport for those who flew in.

>The check in process was quick and smooth. The front desk staff member was quick and efficient.

>My room was large with a fridge and bar sink. TV/remote was old as were the ones in other rooms, so this could be improved. The beds were large and comfortable, although the pillows were only average. The room also had a round table with 2 chairs and a desk with a computer chair. The bathroom was clean, but could probably use a little updating. I found the room quiet with no issues with noise.

>There was high speed internet access in the rooms and a computer (that was always being used) in the lobby.

>I never tried the restaurant/bar in the lobby so I cannot comment on them.

>I did not use the pool, but the hotel does have one.

>Check in process was also smooth with no problems.

Overall, it was a good stay. To be honest I didn't see many staff members around, but those I saw were fine. This hotel didn't blow me away with anything, but didn't really disapoint me either. The cost was a little high so I'm not sure if I was traveling on a personal trip I would stay here. But for this business stay it was very good overall.

“Nice quiet weekend get-away”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2010

This is our usual hotel when staying in Winnipeg - most often on a weekend and usually stay at least once a year. The hotel is located near the airport with a few other hotels on Wellington and doesn't have an attractive view in any direction. The rooms are average size although some are a little bigger. The hotel is quiet even though there is always a wedding taking place. Being a middle-aged+ couple, we appreciate that there are rarely families staying there so don't have to endure the noise of kids running up and down the hallways. We enjoy the fittness, sauna, hot tub and pool area and have always found it to be clean. The beds are firm and comfy, the a/c and heat have always worked and are responsive to the thermostat, there is lots of hot water for a long shower, and each room has a bar sink and small fridge. Staff have always been friendly and polite. The hotel itself and the rooms are very accessible by wheelchair which is great for family members stopping in for a visit. The restaurant is average dining and we usually go elsewhere to try out more upscale or gourmet restaurants. Late August 2010 was our most recent stay at the Greenwood and we did notice that some hallway carpets do have some bleached out stain spots and are showing quite a bit of wear. It is time for new carpeting and a general freshening of the decor. Overall it was another comfortable and enjoyable stay.
