We stayed at this "all suite" hotel for 8 nights. It is located in downtown Winnipeg and is walking distance from a lot of major attractions. We hired a car from the airport so commuting was not a major problem. It is also walking distance from Main St. and Portage Ave.

Each suite has its own kitchen equipped with microwave, fridge/freezer, cooking stove and oven and cutlery. There is a laundry room and grocery story on the ground floor. There is also a bigger grocery store about a block away on Donald Street called IGA.

Our luggage was left behind at Chicago when we flew in. The hotel staff were very helpful in assisting us to get it delivered to the hotel. The cleaners had a bit of an attitude but reception and other staff were very good.

A group from my highschool in Sioux Lookout went to Winnipeg for We Day and we all stayed at Place Louis Riel in some very lovely suites. I was very impressed! However, a teacher in our school told one of us that she was eaten alive by bedbugs and advised us to check for them, etc. Note: I work in a casual position at the hospital in Sioux Lookout, and we learned how to properly check for bedbugs when cleaning rooms. I'm not sure if other students in our group knew how or checked themselves.

So myself and two other girls stayed in a two bed suite and I checked their bed (fine) and my bed. My bed had a few bed bugs in the seams of the sheets, and I immediately pulled the sheet off of the bed after disposing of the bugs and checked the rest of the bed and room as well as the couches and baseboards. Seems overly thorough, but this genuinely bothered me. Haha especially the 2 other girls. The couches and rest of the room were fine, so we put our bags up on the counter and table. By the time I discovered the bedbugs, it was past our time allowed to be out of our room so I didn't go downstairs to inform a staff member, but the next morning told a teacher with us about it.


Because bedbug bites can take up to 2 days to show up and/or be noticed, I spent 2 days after We Day at home after washing my clothes and bag and everything else I had in the hotel with me at the time. Just to be sure I don't take them to school or work or co-op.

We didn't have breakfast there because of time, but we did see the lovely carts of it going upstairs as we left! Staff were also very nice and very tolerant of our huge group when we congested their lobby in the morning. The location was alright, although it was dificult for our bus to drop us off.

I stayed at the Place Louis Riel hotel for 5 nights while visiting family and friends. Previously I had stayed in another hotel but since their rates went up, I decided to try this one and boy was I was happy I did. The suite consisted of a separate bedroom with king size bed and t.v., large living room with another large t.v. and a small kitchen area with table and bar type stools. All this for less than what I would have paid at the other hotel for a small room.

It was fantastic.

The staff was courteous and helpful. The cleaning person made sure that I had everything I needed during my stay (toiletries and coffee!). The place was clean, very spacious and right downtown.

I took advantage of their self parking service which is super convenient when you are downtown.

They even provided a small outdoor smoking area on the fourth floor which my brother took advantage of during my stay.

I was very satisfied with the accommodation and will continue to book with them in future.

I spent six nights at the Louis Riel Suites while I was in Winnipeg for work. Its location was perfect for work, plus after wandering around downtown during my free time I could see that it was within reasonable walking distance from the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Manitoba Museum, Burton Cumming’s Theatre, the Forks, the Jet’s new arena, and Osborne Village. It would be a great spot for anyone who wants to play tourist in Winnipeg and have a great central location.

The one bedroom suite was great – huge living area, kitchen, a comfortable king bed. The hotel itself was quiet overall. I had the misfortune of having a room under very loud people who stomped and banged around quite a bit in the evenings. It was annoying but not worth complaining about. Totally not the hotel’s fault, just bad luck for me.

I think it’s worth mentioning that as a woman traveling alone I felt very safe in the hotel and in the area around the hotel. I did not go out late at night, but up until 7pm or so felt fine walking back from dinner in the area.

My only complaint about the hotel is the lack of sprinklers. Frankly, it’s surprising that having proper fire protection is not code for a hotel, especially a highrise one with kitchens.
