“Decent hotel, friendly people”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

The rooms are quite large and comfy. Front desk was friendly and welcoming. We stayed for only 1 night - as part of a tour package. The location is convenient to nearby restaurants and other shops. But, then the whole town is very small and everything is within walkable distance. The only downside for this hotel was the continental breakfast. It was about the most basic - even by continental b'fast standards - and you have to find everything yourself in a cabinet, refrigerator or drawers. Not a deal breaker though. The gift store at the front desk had better quality selection than the Trading Post next door.

“Basic Accomodation in Churchill, Manitoba”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

Basic, clean, no-frills accomodation. We had to wait for hours to get to our room. One would be well advised to arrive fully dressed in winter clothes. Nice reception. Nice people run the small inn.

“okay”

I spent 3 days in Churchill during off season, May. There were only a few hotels open for business.
The hotel was quick in responding to emails. The owners, however, do not have a secure internet site for credit cards.
Arriving at the hotel, the room had red marks on the pillow case and sheets. The bathroom sink had stuff stuck on the inside of the sink.
I was transferred to a different room. The bathtub bottom in this room was stained with red material. There was also red spot on the bottom of the cover sheet.

The lady at the front counter was very nice. She would make sure that everything for the breakfast was ready to go before I got up. The breakfast provided by the hotel was OK. The raisans in the raisan bran cereal were hard like little pebbles...old.

The rooms were small but good for the northern small town. Internet access was handy. NIce plasma TV's in room.

The rental vehicle did not have an up to date insurance coverage

Room Tip: Check the sheets and room out before settling in.

“Clean & Friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2010

We were greeted warmly and the room was simple and clean. It's located right in the center of town and the owners know everyone in Churchill, so if you need a recommendation they're a great resource.

“Nice Base for Polar Bear Tours”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2010

My mom & I stayed at the Polar Inn as our base for taking Great White Bear Tours out on the tundra to watch the bears. The proprietors are extremely nice and friendly. The inn is nothing fancy, but it's centrally located, which makes a difference when you're walking back from dinner in bitterly cold winds. LOVE the free WiFi (one of my must-haves). Breakfast was really nice - the waffle maker was our fave, yoghurt and fresh fruit was awesome, too.

They have a nice gift shop and even sell stamps (including international). The post office isn't too far away (it's next to the liquor store), but the post office wanted us to purchase entire books of stamps - it was nice of the inn to offer them individually.

Mom did all the arranging and she didn't book a package - she saved quite a lot of money by booking our hotel, airfare and Great White Bear tours a la carte. Just be sure to book well in advance. (She booked in April for a November visit.)

My only gripe (and this seemed prevalent throughout Churchill) was that there is so much waste created that can be avoided - styrofoam plates and cups (styrofoam NEVER breaks down), plastic utensils, etc. Churchill is in the middle of nowhere, and although they do have a recycling facility on the edge of town, getting anything in or out of town is a big process. Sending all that waste to a dump seems criminal. Installing a dish washer and providing reusable dinnerware seems so much smarter and more earth-friendly.
