“Close to the slopes”

We stayed at the Tyndall Stone Lodge over a long weekend to ski. The unit itself (311) was nice, roomy, and everything we expected. We were disappointed that there was no Internet in our unit, but we were able to pick up Wi-Fi here and there. The hot tub/outdoor pool was also closed during our stay. The front desk did not inform us upon check in and when we discovered it we called the front desk to express our disappointment, the agent was not interested in helping. It would have been nice if they would have let us use another property's facilities since there are several hotels under the same ownership, or at least refund some of our payment. We chose that place because of the hot tub/pool facilities.

Also, this unit overlooks a main plaza in town where they have an ice skating rink. Friday and Saturday night were very loud and it was difficult to sleep. While it was a picturesque view, the noise was frustrating when we were tired from skiing all day and planning to get up early to hit the slopes again. Also, on Sunday morning at 5:30 am the snow plow started plowing the entire plaza and this lasted for 5+ hours. I get they have to do that, it snows there, but I will NOT stay near a plaza in Whistler again. I would stay on the street side or another place next time because of the noise.

Overall, I would consider staying there again. But I'd rather stay in a quieter area with better maintained facilities. This place is affordable and really is just a 10-minute walk to the slopes and super close to great restaurants, bars, the grocery store, and the liquor store. But, so are most places in Whistler!

Room Tip: Stay on the street side. Believe it or not, I think that's quieter.

“Had quiet a few problems.”

We rented from the owner of #310. This unit is in a building with no front desk or personnel "on duty". The key code to get into the condo did not work when we arrived. Could not immediately reach owner. We were later locked out when we went to the outdoor pool and hot tub, and couldn't get back into the building for quiet some time.
The condo was a good size and clean, but very dark. It had very few lamps and ceiling lights. I went to the store to buy higher watt light bulbs and was told that in Canada, it's illegal to sell the high wattage bulbs. The one and only light bulb in the loft vaulted ceiling was out, which made it dangerous for my son going up and down the dark stairs. This was finally fixed on maybe day 5 of our vacation. They couldn't obtain a tall enough ladder. We also had trouble getting the internet to work.
Although the location was great, I wouldn't stay here again.

“good value and far quieter than "the village"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

We're skiers, so I can't address summer use here. Over the past 25 years and probably more than a hundred Whistler visits, we've stayed at or near to every place at Whistler, Blackcomb and Creekside that can reasonably rented for a week. All considered, If we can't find a reasonable ski-in/out place above Blackcomb, then Tyndall Stone in the north village is our favorite and we go there any time we can get in. I'll bet we've stayed in the Tyndall Stone at least 15 times.

The folks that complain about noise at Tyndall Stone have no idea how loud the main (south) village gets ALL THE TIME. Tyndall Stone is located in the north village far enough away from all the "in" bars and night clubs. Yes, like every other multi-unit facility in Whistler, one might be woken up by the revelers stumbling home after the clubs close at 2AM but that's nothing compared with pretty much every reasonably priced place to stay in the main village (nearest to the Gondola) where bars, nightclubs and pubs seem always to be right under you or just across the street from where you are staying - and noisy from 3pm to 2am.

We've stayed in #207, #208 (most often), #209, 214 and 304. All the units have been fine, always clean, well appointed and easy for 2 couples or a family with kids for an entire week. Every time unit we've stayed in are 2 bedrooms units with each bedroom located opposite each other off a central living room/dining/kitchen and each with double doors so opening everything up can be quite nice when you are staying for a week. The masters have a private bath with a tub shower, the bedrooms in every unit we've been in so far have twin beds and a dual entrance bath with a wonderful big walk-in shower. Kitchens are just fine with full sized equipment - great for one chef, a little cozy for 2 but just fine cooking for 4 - and we've often cooked for 6 for a week (note about having 6 folks - their fold out couches are no better than anyone elses fold out couches). Several of the upper 3XX units have a loft which has been fun because we often have room to sleep one more up there (depends on what the owners have done so be sure to ask first...).

Best news we've heard recently and the reason that I'm writing this review is as of summer 2011 Whiski Jack is no longer managing any of the time share units in the Tindall Stone - they could be unpleasant and earned every undesirable thing written in TripAdvisor about them. In my opinion, Whiski Jack's "noise fee's" were truly rediculous! The new manager for all the timeshare units in the Tyndall Stone is Trading Places International. TPI's new check-in office is on the way into Whistler (Creekside) near the train station.

We like the Tyndall Stone because it's close enough while being just far enough away. You can leave your car in the garage for the week and walk to everything: the free bus to get to the ski slopes is a short walk, the biggest grocery and liquor stores in the village is even closer, and lots of great north end restaurants and pubs are just minutes away.

We've found people related noise at every close quartered ski resort in the world. Whistler is no worse than others and Tyndall Stone is better than most the places up there. Hope this helps.

Room Tip: South facing units face the street and are sunny, units closest to the SW corner deal with the hot t...

Tyndall Stone Lodge- Unit 218
Booked through Whistler.com / Whistler Superior Properties
"Stay and Ski Package-Book Early and Save" package

Our trip was 4 single guys up for President's weekend, 3 day ski, 4 nights, and we could not have asked for a better deal. Booked through Whistler.com's special early package, you get the condo and lift tickets at a nice discount. The location of Tyndall is great, especially for the price we paid. We could get up, eat breakfast, and walk out the door to a quick 10 minute walk to the lift.

The condo itself is not glamorous but it is just fine. Two rooms, two bathrooms, all clean. We had a queen or king bed, I don't recall, and two doubles, and a guy slept on the queen rollout couch bed. The porch is big so you can throw your wet ski gear out there to dry over night. The unit has a fake fireplace/heater that works well. The kitchen was nice and clean and had all the utensils and items we needed to make meals to save money.

The complex had a small jacuzzi and pool, and downstairs parking with gear locker.

Our unit was right near the Von's or whatever major chain grocery store, so we could run over to get food, as well as the local liquor store for beer. Plenty of other coffee shops and pizza joints right out front as well.

All in all a great location, great unit, great experience and nothing went wrong or awry. I recommend both the Tyndall units and the whistler.com booking experience.

We just booked again for Feb 2012, but unfortunately Tyndall was not available so we are going to test the Glaciers Reach unit, which I will review in a few months!

“Aging but well-kept building with good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

We spent a week at Tyndall Stone Lodge in the Lower Village in Whister in late June 2011 compliments of a relatives who couldn’t use their week this year . It was our first time staying in Whistler, and overall it was a very enjoyable family week.

Check-in went very smoothly for us. The people doing the check-in and out were pleasant and helpful. Our assigned underground parking stall, like others in the parking garage, was very small. The parking is secure (key access needed to get to the parking area).

Our two-bedroom unit (#213) overlooked the Village Stroll and 2010 Olympic area and we could see the Olympic and Paralympic rings, Olympic cauldron, medal stage, etc. There is a really nice looking new children’s play area that was being completed while we were there. It is very close to the hospital as well. It is at the quieter end of the Village Stroll – which can be a positive or a negative thing, depending on how much night life you like. It is close to David’s Tea and Starbucks, along with several other shops.

It is apparent that most items in the condo unit had been upgraded over the years although the cabinetry had not been upgraded and was very, very worn (gouges, pieces of countertop missing) as well as dated-looking. Some of the floor tiles in the kitchen were loose. Overall, the condo was fairly clean although not “to the corners” clean, especially in the bathrooms. Other general comments about the amenities are as follow: There was no cutting board to use in the kitchen. There was a clock-radio in only one of the two bedrooms. The fans came in handy (one in each bedroom) as the portable air conditioning unit was located in the living area and did not keep the entire condo cool enough during warm summer weather. The bedrooms are quite small, and there are no dressers or any furniture for clothing; however, there is wire shelving (one long upper shelf and a vertical row of smaller shelves) inside the bedroom closets. The walls, floors, and windows are not at all soundproof, so we heard a lot of noise during our stay. There is a phone number (info is in the condo) to call if there is excessive, late hour noise (but we didn’t see it until the next day after what sounded like an all night relay race in the hallway above us so we didn’t use the number so cannot comment on its effectiveness). A major inconvenience in the kitchen is that there is no place to hang a hand towel near the sink nor a place to hang tea towels; there are no hooks, rods, etc. and the stove didn’t have a handle that allows towels to hang from. Similarly, the bathrooms have no place by the sinks to hang a hand towel. There was a good supply of towels for the three of us. The info in the condo says number of towels are stocked for the maximum number of occupants and if more towels are needed, there is a $25 charge. The deck off the living area was on the small side and had two plastic chairs and a small table; it was adequate in size to sit or stand on while having a morning coffee.

A “welcome basket” contained a single package of ground coffee, four tea bags, and a single use box of Tide laundry detergent. There were four or five dishwasher tablets for use for the week (which was fine as we didn’t use the dishwasher every day). Coffee filters are provided. The only condiments supplied are salt and pepper. There is a good selection of kitchen appliances and utensils (but no cutting board as previously mentioned).

We encountered an issue with getting wireless Internet access. The password is on the router in each room but the one on the router in our condo had partially worn away so it was not legible enough even with guessing some of the missing numbers. Since it was evening, we had to wait until the next day to call to get the password. Hopefully this has been rectified to avoid future inconveniences. The information about Internet access in the book in the condo unit is outdated as it refers to wired access.

All-in-all, despite it being an older building, with its good location and fairly good amenities in the suite, we were satisfied with our stay and would stay there again. Since relatives lent us their week, we did not have to pay to stay there, but I have tried to be as unbiased as possible in this review.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the Village Stroll (instead of the street) are probably a bit noisier but the...
