“Would definitely stay at the Aspens again!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We are a family with two teenage daughters and we stayed at the Aspens in January during our Aus school holidays. We just loved the location. The ski-in, ski-out location by the Blackcomb base was perfect. It made it easy to have everyone ready and on the lifts by 8.30 am and was so nice after the big ski home at the end of the day to just ski in and hand our skis over to the friendly valets for overnight storage.
It is a 10-15 minute stroll to the Whistler village for going to the big supermarkets or going out to dinner but we prefer to have a bit of a walk into the centre of things. (And the lit bridge over the river made for some pretty photos!) There wasn't that much in the upper village really for dinner... oh one place we really liked, can't remember the name of it.... will have to get back with that! And I'm sure if my daughters were a few years older they would have loved the apres-ski at Merlins!!
Anyhow we stayed for 9 nights in Room 264 which was well located away from the hot pools but with a nice view over the whole complex, the steam rising from the pools and glimpses through the trees of the chairlifts moving up the slope. The apartment was warm and comfortable with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a well equipped kitchen. There was only one TV and it was old and tiny! There was a very tacky dried flower ornament thing on the mantlepiece which someone should really chuck out but apart from that the decor was pleasant enough. There was no wifi which was a bit of a pain although after a few days we discovered we could sit in the lobby/conference room type areas downstairs and get wifi down there. There was an internet connection in the room which would have been okay if we brought a laptop but we just travelled with an iPad.
We didn't have the room cleaned or serviced during our time but I think we could have requested it if we wished after a week. There were plenty of towels but the laundry room was very convenient to our room if we had needed to launder any.
We booked through Whistler Reservations and they booked us into the Aspens through someone else. Anyhow, our check-in was not at the Aspens but at Blackcomb Lodge in Whistler Village. It was a little confusing because we assumed Blackcomb Lodge was at the Blackcomb base. Luckily, the people from the Coach company knew more about it than we did and after we got of the bus a van waited for us to check-in at Blackcomb Lodge before driving us and all our gear up to the Aspens!
Just a general tip about skiing in Whistler. Saturdays seem to be by far the busiest day!! It took an hour in the queue to get on the Blackcomb Wizard on a Saturday which was maybe 5-10 minutes all the other days. If you are staying for more than a week, plan it so your stay does not include 2 Saturdays or plan to have the Saturdays as your 'day off'.

We want to thank for taking the time to post such a detailed review on Whistler Premier's unit #264 at The Aspens on Blackcomb. We are glad to hear that enjoyed your stay with us.

We will pass along your comments regarding the TV and floral arrangement along to our House Manager who oversees the maintenance and upkeep for our owners.

All guests no matter how they book their stay should be receiving proper check in instructions so that is something we will address with Whistler Reservations. Luckily Pacific Coach Lines were able to sort it out for you so you were not terribly inconvenienced.

Thank you for choosing Whistler Premier for your Whistler accommodation needs.

“Several ways to book The Aspens - a terrific place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I've stayed several times in The Aspens - it's my favorite Whistler location bar none! Favorite unit is # 217.

Travellers should know that The Aspens is comprised of approx 240 units that are individually owned then put into a rental management arrangement by their owners. Several owners simply use a large company like Resort Quest, Peak to Green or Blackcomb Peaks to manage their units. Resort Quest is the property manager with the most units in the Aspens (probably about 80 units) however their total number of units does not come close to the number of units managed by their owners using Alluradirect.com as their booking site and smaller local property managers to look after the suite and provide service to renters . In general these suites are cared for better than the ones managed by the larger companies. They typically have newer decorating, are better equipped, pay closer attention to detail and provide better value.

The front desk in The Aspens is the source of confusion to many renters. Resort Quest has a contract to operate the front desk. They act as a normal front desk for Resort Quest renters providing check in/out hotel like services. A condition of their contract is that they also provide service to all renters of other units for things like pool towels, pool key fobs, general questions etc, however they do not provide hotel front desk like service for a non Resort Quest unit. Instead service is provided by the local property manager that the suite was rented through.

If you are considering renting in The Aspens which is by far the best location in Whistler with true ski in/ ski out - take a look at Alluradirect.com.

“The Apsens”

The Aspens is in a great location, however, there were several issues we were not aware of when we booked the room. We had no idea that you need to pay for wireless service and only one person can get on the internet at a time, unless you pay for each person to sign up. This makes it very difficult if you need to work remotely during your stay.

They also neglect to tell you that you cannot get onto Netflix so there is NO viewing movies instantly. This was a huge disappointment! We would've loved to have this information.

Another reviewer mentioned the lack of people skills on the part of the front desk manager. I couldn't agree more! She was sharp, not very helpful and made us feel as though we were imposing on her when we asked directions. Everywhere else in Whistler, we found extremely friendly service. We happen to own a large hospitaltiy company and if we allowed our employees to have an attitude such as hers, we'd be out of business.

The only other complaint is that the pool towels are worn, very small and do not absorb well. We were basically freezing when we got out of the pool. Then we had to return the towels to the front desk, get our towel cards back and walk up to our room, freezing. A very bad system! Would love to see that change.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the lifts - very fun at night!

“Unit #356 refurbished! Good choice on Aspens!”

Aspens unit #356, efficiently managed by Whistler Premier, has been refurbished as I've requested after send prior tripadvisor reviews complaining on the conditions of the furniture. Everything is much better, only a few scratches on the wall are to be fixed.
Aspens is ski in/out a few steps down the hill to Blackcomb's base. A very convenient vallet service is working to store the skis and the unit #356 is just like 30 ms away from the elevator, with a clear view of the slope.
No breakfast at all and be aware of the housekeeping police (in my case, housekeeping was only once a week.
Very good experience. i recommend!

Room Tip: Rooms are managed by different companies. I have booked with Whistler Premier 3 times and never had...

Thank you for taking the time to post this review regarding Whistler Premier's unit #356 at The Aspens on Blackcomb. As you mentioned the unit was recently refurbished this past fall. The new furniture, kitchen appliances and the view makes #356 one of my favorite units in the complex. We will pass along the comments regarding the walls so our maintenance staff is aware and can schedule some painting touch ups. As well some new furniture for the living room will be installed in the coming weeks!

We are quite glad to hear that your experiences with Whistler Premier during 3 different visits have been positive and enjoyable.

Thank you for choosing Whistler Premier for your Whistler accommodation needs.

“Great time at Aspen on Blackcomb”

Upper village is definitely the hot spot for skiers. Easy ski in ski out. You can even climb the hill after dinner in the village to get back to the hotel... The place was great, not to much, just enough. We had the condo #341, with a separate room. Fireplace, king size bed ( super comfy), balcony, Internet. The place was spotless and so was the rest of the hotel. We got the deal thru blackcomb-whistler last minute deal. For 139,99$ a night it was more than worth it. Will definitely go back soon.

Room Tip: With the last minute deal from Blackcomb-Whistler you can't really chooses room. It's all ab...

What a fantastic review, thank you. We are so very happy to hear how you enjoyed your stay at the Aspens on Blackcomb. I will pass on your kind comments to our housekeepers, strata staff and ResortQuestWhistler Owner.
I’m not sure if you are aware, but there is a free shuttle to and from the village, if for some reason the climb up the hill is not possible, along with Summit ski and snowboard rental, and valet, and a very beautiful hot tub and pool.
ResortQuest Whistler would like to thank you so much for your custom and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Wishing you a happy and healthy winter.
