We are a family with two teenage daughters and we stayed at the Aspens in January during our Aus school holidays. We just loved the location. The ski-in, ski-out location by the Blackcomb base was perfect. It made it easy to have everyone ready and on the lifts by 8.30 am and was so nice after the big ski home at the end of the day to just ski in and hand our skis over to the friendly valets for overnight storage.
It is a 10-15 minute stroll to the Whistler village for going to the big supermarkets or going out to dinner but we prefer to have a bit of a walk into the centre of things. (And the lit bridge over the river made for some pretty photos!) There wasn't that much in the upper village really for dinner... oh one place we really liked, can't remember the name of it.... will have to get back with that! And I'm sure if my daughters were a few years older they would have loved the apres-ski at Merlins!!
Anyhow we stayed for 9 nights in Room 264 which was well located away from the hot pools but with a nice view over the whole complex, the steam rising from the pools and glimpses through the trees of the chairlifts moving up the slope. The apartment was warm and comfortable with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a well equipped kitchen. There was only one TV and it was old and tiny! There was a very tacky dried flower ornament thing on the mantlepiece which someone should really chuck out but apart from that the decor was pleasant enough. There was no wifi which was a bit of a pain although after a few days we discovered we could sit in the lobby/conference room type areas downstairs and get wifi down there. There was an internet connection in the room which would have been okay if we brought a laptop but we just travelled with an iPad.
We didn't have the room cleaned or serviced during our time but I think we could have requested it if we wished after a week. There were plenty of towels but the laundry room was very convenient to our room if we had needed to launder any.
We booked through Whistler Reservations and they booked us into the Aspens through someone else. Anyhow, our check-in was not at the Aspens but at Blackcomb Lodge in Whistler Village. It was a little confusing because we assumed Blackcomb Lodge was at the Blackcomb base. Luckily, the people from the Coach company knew more about it than we did and after we got of the bus a van waited for us to check-in at Blackcomb Lodge before driving us and all our gear up to the Aspens!
Just a general tip about skiing in Whistler. Saturdays seem to be by far the busiest day!! It took an hour in the queue to get on the Blackcomb Wizard on a Saturday which was maybe 5-10 minutes all the other days. If you are staying for more than a week, plan it so your stay does not include 2 Saturdays or plan to have the Saturdays as your 'day off'.
