“A gluten free dream!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

We can confirm all previous comments about the comfort of those beds and my husband and I definitely enjoyed three good nights of rest in the very pleasant Wedgewood room. This alone would have been worth the very reasonable room rates but then you get to the breakfasts! Four courses (and they do mean four) kept us full until dinner time, although throughout the day we did sneak a few of the wonderful home-baked breakfast goodies which Paulanne provides (they were just too tempting!) Beds and baked goodies were not the least of our delights, however. Paulanne and David catered beautifully to my husband's gluten sensitivity: gluten-free sausage; wheat-free cereals; crustless quiche; french toast and oh those home-made muffins. Our fellow guests also sampled these delights and enjoyed some of them so much they bagged up some of his special gluten free goodies for their own afternoon snacks--they were that good! Paulanne even generously shared some of her recipes with us so I can attempt to treat my husband as well as she and David did! If you have food sensitivities and are looking for a good B&B alternative in Victoria, Ashcroft comes with our hightest recommendation.

“Highly Recommended”

Wonderful place to relax and enjoy Victoria without feeling like your a tourist from hotel lane. Great and friendly service, amazing food, clean beautiful Orchid suite (the only one I saw because it was my room). Looking forward to visiting Victoria again and no doubt staying at the Ashcroft B&B.

“Warm and Inviting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

Our recent stay at Ashcroft House was warm and inviting. The breakfasts were incredible. Paulanne and David are great hosts who helped us with Victoria sightseeing ideas and restaurant suggestions. They even got us off to the airport on time with a full breakfast. Location is close to downtown and the ocean. Highly recommended and we definitely plan to return.

“Can't Wait to Return”

My wife and I stayed at the Ashcroft House two nights and changed rooms after the first night so we could get the Orchid Suite for our anniversary. Our first night was in the Wedgewood room, which was quite nice. We were extremely impressed, though, by the Orchid Suite. The bathroom was enormous, and it felt larger than our living room at home. The bed was just perfect - soft and comfy, with what must have been a pillow-top mattress.

The breakfast was absolutely delicious. Definitely the best B&B fare we have ever had - hands down! Four courses, and we all had trouble finishing the last course because we were so stuffed. We learned from that and went lighter on the cereal and scones the second morning, but holding back like that took all the will power we had.

What really made the experience extra-special, though, was how truly accommodating Paulanne was to my wife's requirement to eat gluten-free. It can be a real pain to eat out gluten-free. The selection is quite limited, and it's difficult to know whether to trust the cook not to cross-contaminate. No worries here. Not at all. For every item that Paulanne served, she told us what was safe and what wasn't. And before we could blink an eye, there she was serving the corresponding GF item just as natural and low-key as if she had done it all her life. It's those extra little touches that will have us coming back here.

Room Tip: Go for the Orchid Suite!

“Hope to return for our 40th”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2011

One of the things that is important to me when I'm on vacation is the quality of the beds. Because of a health condition, I need a comfortable bed! The beds at Ashcroft House are wonderful--I slept in two different rooms because they didn't have three nights available to us in just one room. Not only were the beds comfortable, they also had very good quality linens. We stayed in the Sheldon room and Cotswald. Both rooms were very comfy and nicely furnished. If you are a large person, the bathrooms are on the small side, but it was not an issue for us.

Another thing that is important to me is the breakfast. A better quality breakfast you could not ask for. I've stayed in many B & B's, and so far this one has the best breakfasts. The granola and muesli are outstanding. All four courses are outstanding. Make sure to pace yourself so you have room for the main course! Try not to hurry through the meal. One morning we were in the dining room from 9 to 10:30 AM. It was so delightful to sit and chat with the other travelers.

Paulanne and David were most friendly and helpful. They really did help make our stay in Victoria a memorable one.
