“Pass on this one...rude front desk”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

From the start this was not a good experience. We were met by the front desk person and he was extremely condescending and arrogant and tried to make passes at my partner while I was standing there. Although we booked for a king sized bed he stated that it was expedia's fault and they had no king beds in the entire building and said there was nothing he could do to remedy the situation. The room was only half painted with Spackle and drywall showing. The heat in the room did not work at all even with the thermostat cranked up all the way. The bed was very uncomfortable. Our room was right beside the stairwell and we heard everything; the walls are paper thin and the large windows are single pane (the hotel is located on a major highway) and people stand outside the room to smoke and talk. Needless to say, we got very little sleep.

pros:
- it's close to downtown and relatively inexpensive
- the room was clean
- free parking and wifi

cons:
- male front desk staff was rude
- we booked for king but they switched us to queen with no notice and no opportunity to switch
- noisy
- bed was uncomfortable
- room was unpainted/unfinished
- not heat in room

I do not recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to be treated to respect or wanting a good nights sleep.

Room Tip: pick a room as far from the stairwells as possible. stay on the far side away from the highway. do...

“No thanks”

As a local, I'd driven past this hotel many times and thought to give it a try as my girlfriend and I wanted a place to stay for the night. We got there about 11 pm on a Friday night and got checked-in. When we went down to the basement level, we found out our room was sandwiched between two frat parties. My girlfriend also noticed there was blood on the keycard. We went up to the front desk to find out about switching rooms, and the front desk agent said we got the last room he had but he would "go talk to them". Knowing that we were unlikely to get a decent night's sleep, we left our keycards on the desk and left. In fairness, we stayed at a different TI locaiton.

We were recently in Victoria for a baseball tournament and had the experience of staying at the Vacation Inn. They claim the hotel has just been renovated, are you kidding? Our bathroom had a junction box hanging out of the ceiling! Basically they have painted and installed crown molding and that's about it. The uncomfortable mattresses do not look like they have been replaced and if they have, then they are a $50 match set, the toilet has a crack in the porcelain and runs all night unless you take the lid off and fix it yourself! The shower head is like getting blasted with a high powered mister. A couple of other things to note: it would be nice if the room had a CLOCK RADIO, have you ever tried to set a microwave oven to wake you up with a DING! Oh and an elevator would also be a neat idea for this hotel as this would really help getting your luggage to the third floor.
On the positive side the staff were OK and polite, and the pool was a hit with the kids. This place charges $129-$149 in July which is very high for the quality you are getting, it's more like a $49-$69 room. For $50 more you can stay at the Royal Scot , that would be my next choice!

  • Liked — the pool was OK
  • Disliked — Room maintenance was non existent
