We are locals to Victoria, and stayed here for our wedding night. We had gone 8 months prior to our wedding to check it out, and must have hit them on a really good day that day, because it looked lovely, and was very close to our wedding reception venue. Being locals, we had many places to choose from, and are totally regretting our choice.
We stayed in the Oceanside Suite ($299/night).
We arrived around midnight- I had emailed a week earlier to confirm that a late arrival was ok, and was assured it would be fine. There were no lights on outside or inside, so we had to feel our way through (not an easy task with an armload of stuff and wearing a giant wedding gown). There was nobody at the front desk and no note or anything for us. We wandered around until we found our room (yes we'd been there once before- but could not remember which way to go). The door to our room was wide open. We go in. There was something sticky on the floor with hair stuck to it. There was no toilet paper- my husband went downstairs to find some napkins from the breakfast room. We had a bottle of champagne that we brought with us, but there were no glasses in the room- thank god my bridesmaids had packed a care package for us with glasses. There was a jacuzzi tub in the room- one of the main reasons we booked here- so we decided to cut our losses and have a soak. Well, the jets didn't work in the tub. I got out and stepped on a bottle cap on the carpet AND a dorito chip. The bed appeared to be made freshly, and was clean and very comfortable- the ONLY positive of the whole stay. The patio was large and with a lovely view, but all the planters on the edges were barren of flowers and full of cigarette butts.
We wound up getting the room for free- which was still overpriced. The girl at the desk was nice enough- but totally unprofessional. This was like staying with a very messy unorganized relative- not a "luxury resort" as advertised. It ruined our wedding night that we can't get back. I feel sorry for any out of towners that may think that this is what Victoria has to offer. If you want some suggestions from a local on where to really stay in Victoria, please email me- I'd be glad to steer you elsewhere.
