“Depends on what you are looking for...”

We wanted a reasonably priced, quiet hotel within an easy walk of the waterfront and the heart of Victoria. The room was small and basic, but clean and functional. The hotel is quaint and well maintained, the lobby has loads of character, and the staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. We had a view of the Victorian neighborhood and the dome of the Parliament Building from our window.
We especially appreciated the cold, lemoned water available in the lobby in the afternoon. Good coffee in the lobby in the morning. We felt welcomed. Would certainly stay here again.
Three city blocks to the waterfront through a lovely Victorian neighborhood. Within easy walking distance of downtown, Fisherman's wharf, Parliament, the Fairmont Empress Hotel, the ferry terminal and the Inner Harbor.

“Charm-Plus”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We like to stay at small botique lodgings and do not expect every convenience. This is an old inn that has been refurbished (with one of the most beautiful custom-made oak banisters you will ever find!). Yes, the rooms are smallish and the uneven floors creak a little. But the place is very clean and well-kept. It is in a quiet residential neighborhood with a corner "grocery" a block away. For us this added to the appeal. We especially liked that it was within easy walking distance of downtown Victoria and other attractions in the city. Add to these pluses the fact that it is inexpensive, and, for our money, we've got a winner here. We would most definitely stay here again.

“Decor hurt my eyes”

First off, let me say I would stay there again. The location was great, lovely neighborhood, restaurant food very good, cheap (reserved in conjunction w/Victoria Clipper deal from Seattle), outstanding staff (polite and helpful). Pub was cozy and great for evenings at the bar - very convivial. My less than sterling rating has to do with the room. The color scheme was a very off-putting ice blue and puce (mauve gone wrong). Granted, it matched the hideous printed bed coverlet to a tee. There was some exceedingly ugly plywood furniture and a metal rack for hanging clothes. The only attractive thing in the room was an original Victorian painted cast-iron radiator. They need some serious guidance on decorating what could be a premier property. And another discordant note - the dining room is all 70s disco mirrors and weird wavy ceiling.

Room Tip: Ours was one floor up from lobby and overlooking parking on the side, but we had little noise, a nic...

“Would stay there again!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

Recently stayed there with a wedding group ages 1 1/2 - 82 and had 5 rooms in total. They each had their own character (definitely not cookie cutter decor), but all were clean and warm. Some even had electric fireplaces! There was coffee in the lobby for those early morning needs, and the food in the restaurant was good. This hotel is very close to the waterfront, well within walking distance of the Parliament buildings and other attractions. Set in a lovely neighborhood (there were still flowers blooming in November!). Adequate parking. Reasonable rates.
The only drawback for us was that there is a flight of stairs up to the main lobby, and no elevators inside - hard on the 82 year old, and the mother carrying the young child.
