One of the best things about this hotel is its location - the same distance from th harbour as the Marriott and only 4 minutes walk from the seafront Empress Hotel, yet at a fraction of the cost of both.
We had a huge room with a King size bed (note that all of these are on the corner of Blanshard and Courtney so they get traffic noise - quiter rooms overlook the rear). The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was spotlessly clean with everything you could hope for - including fridge, iron, ironing board, 2 phones (with free local calls), multi-channel TV, the/coffee maker (with daily supplies). The room furnishings and decorations are somewhat 'tired' as you might expect in a budget hotel, and the bathroom has quite an old feel; but none of this detracted from our enjoyment. Indeed the price we paid in omparison to others we checked out was exceptionally good, especially since we qualified for their generously-aged Seniors rate.
The hotel has a small swimming pool and steam room, surprising for a budget hotel, as well as laundry, and free tea and coffee in reception.
Breakfast is served on tne ground floor in the Green Room and was adequate and fairly priced
There is secure parking at $6 a day and the very friendly Glen let us in there early and arranged fir our room to be prepared ahead of check-in time when we arrived early.
With its location in the heart of downtown Victoria, just minutes from the harbour, this is a hotel for those who want a pleasant stay but who would rather keep their bucks for enjoying other things than posh furniture. We heartily recommend it and would have no hesitation in returning.
