“No better value or location in Victoria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

I absolutely adore this hotel. The two bedroom/two bath plus kitchenette suites are well appointed (not modern but constantly being tastefully updated), and they are huge by any city's standards. There is no better location in the city (you can walk to the parliament buildings, the Empress hotel for tea (beautiful but rooms are too small), and many great restaurants) and view of the harbor is absolutely stunning. If by chance you choose to take the sea plane here from Vancouver, the planes land very close to the hotel. The hotel also offers a nice breakfast (continental but including boiled eggs, fruit, toast etc.) which can be delivered to your room for a very small fee. I don't know who wouldn't enjoy this hotel but it especially good for families. Stay here. You will not be disappointed. P.S. With regards to the poor WIFI note in another review, I am using it and have had no problems.

Room Tip: Spend the extra for a 2 bedroom suite with a water view.

I've visited this hotel several times and love it. Perfect location. The free contenintal breakfast is awesome, an actual meal. Out of the last 4 stays I've been upgraded 3 times to a suite for free.

“Home away from home in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

After a very late arrival from Australia (9pm) - no hassel at check in - it was fantastic to make it to our two bedroom suite (room 704). It was well equipped with a full kitchen, lounge room, dining table and a balcony overlooking the marina.
Whilst there was no airconditioning, opening the balcony doors (one in each bedroom plus the lounge room) let the air come through. The only challenge was when the sea planes iddled out the front - the fuel smell permeated the suite for a while, but eventually went away. I didn't enjoy the noise or the smell, but my fellow travellers loved being able to see the planes come and go - to each their own!
There was a free breakfast available (porridge, toast, juice, cereals and fruit) - it was nothing special, but the staff were hard working and very helpful. That being said, with the full kitchen, I made my own breakfast most mornings of our four night stay.
The undercover parking was handy, free internet access was reliable and the business centre had everything we needed.
The rooms were very clean and the reception staff helpful and welcoming (not bad when they were dealing with a difficult and boisterous golfing group).
We were able to walk to the BC Museum, around the Inner Harbour, to the shopping precinct and there were several restaurants nearby (we went to The Keg, which was OK).
I would definitely stay here again.

“Spacious, with stunning views but poor wi-fi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

This hotel is right on the waterfront in downtown Victoria and accordingly has stunning views of the harbor, if you choose to book a room facing in that direction. As other reviewers have noted, the rooms are spacious and well-appointed, with a complete kitchen if you’re in the mood to cook for yourself.

Our room - or more accurately, suite - was on the ground floor and looked out directly over the harbor and a sea-plane terminal where Kenmore air flights provided some splendid views of sea-plane aeronautics. The bed was outstanding and we slept very well, in spite of open windows and occasional outbreaks of hysteria among the seagulls. The location is very convenient for local restaurants and the Empress; but be aware that almost all local restaurants close promptly at 9 p.m. in a fit of stuffy provincialism that is highly annoying.

The only negative aspect to the Victoria Regina was the appalling wi-fi connection, which worked adequately for perhaps 10% of the time, suffering numerous broken connections (each of which required a log-in to re-establish) and “limited or no connectivity” in spite of a good signal strength. This was not an issue with our computer; and our smartphone never achieved a wi-fi connection at all. The lass at the front desk loaned us a modem, which alas did not help much. Consequently a dutiful ten-minute check of our firm’s email while we were on holiday devolved into a multiple-hour ordeal each day, which we did not appreciate. On the plus side, the wi-fi was free, which was a welcome break from the “the more you pay the less you get” mentality among good hotels, but nevertheless, it should have been worth more than we paid for it. If you need reliable wi-fi, definitely check with the hotel regarding its status before booking.

Room Tip: Harbor-side if possible; ground floor if you don't mind the seagull cries!

I am sorry that you had less than reliable wi fi connectivity during your recent stay with us. We have recently installed a new system and are still in the process of ironing out the bugs. We are working closely with the provider to ensure full coverage in all parts of the building. The Business Center located in the lobby is always available for guest use and is equipped with full wired internet access. We hope to welcome you to the Regent in the future.

“Great room, great view!”

We booked a two bedroom suite with a view on the marina. The suite was nothing short of perfect, with astonishing views, two huge bedrooms with huge beds (with very comfortable mattresses and pillows) and both rooms with ensuite bathrooms. There was also a very comfortable living room and a kitchen with all necessary appliances, and everything was spotlessly clean. To top it off, parking was included in the price (which is rare with other Victoria hotels, where parking is about $20 per night extra) and a very nice continental breakfast was included. The reception staff were all very kind and accommodating, and even willing to give us a discounted night when we asked about extending our stay.

I can't imagine any other location having more beautiful views, we really lucked out and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Small tip: If you want to try one of the best seafood restaurants nearby, Nautical Nellie's is highly recommended, but make sure you reserve! The reception staff told us to go there but even on a Sunday evening, there was a 2 hour wait! We went to the Keg instead, which had fantastic steaks and an excellent kids' menu too.

Room Tip: Definitely go for the rooms with a view on the marina, but be ready for a bit of noise when the sea...
