We weren't looking for anything outstanding, just a decent room with a king bed to spend one night in Victoria while visiting friends. The Inn seemed to have a reasonable reputation and one of us had stayed there some years ago. We booked with hotels.com and paid an advance reservation rate to confirm the room. Arrived early (before noon) and were told there was no chance of an early check in as all rooms were occupied. No problem... we opted to go meet up with our friends for a while first. Back to the hotel at 5:30 p.m. and we were checked in to a small room with two double beds. Called the front desk to request a king room as reserved and were advised they would call us back. Received a callback a few minutes later and were made to feel like second-class citizens for using a third-party website; we were advised that no king bed rooms were available, but we were offered an upgrade to a suite for a 25% surcharge. Having just shelled out an extra $15 for self-parking in the separate parkade, we declined.
The room was small and musty, with only one bathrobe, a small TV, an empty fridge and, interestingly enough, a letter on the floor by the door which was dated 3 days earlier - belied the tale of the hotel being fully booked the previous night! The "balcony" was a patio with railing on the gravel roof.
There is only the one over-priced restaurant - no cocktaiil lounge or coffee bar. Room service comes with a mandatory 15% gratuity PLUS a $4 delivery charge! The pool was just that, a small hotel pool without a hot tub or any other amenities. Luckily, we spent very little time at the hotel. I will not stay here again.
Room Tip: Apparently, if you book directly with the hotel, you might get better service. From other reviews...
