“What a Gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Great location overlooking the harbour in Victoria. Located in a quiet area that is within walking distance to the busy downtown core. The hotel has nicely appointed rooms, an indoor pool and the service is fantastic. The dinning room is surprisingly delicious, from breakfast oatmeal to chicken pot pie lunch to seared tuna for dinner. The chef is terrific. Value for cost, this is one of Victoria's best kept secrets.

Room Tip: ask for harbour view

“Disappointing - not 4 star”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

you really need to do your homework on this hotel before booking, or you are likely to end up paying 4 star prices for a 2.5 star room. we were looking for a nice 2-day getaway for a couple in vancouver, and wanted to stay somewhere 4 star. our room at the laurel inn was absolutely a 2.5 star room.

we booked at the laurel inn because it showed up in searches of 4-star victoria hotels, but in fact, only half the hotel is 4 star, and it was not made clear when we booked that we would NOT be in 4-star accommodations, despite the high price of the room. in fact, the wing that we were in looked nothing like what is advertised on the website. we were apparently in a renovated room, but i would hate to see the non-renovated rooms. it was a very basic, nothing special, 2 bed room. it had only one comfortable chair, only one housecoat, a simple bathroom and 2 very hard beds. there was a mini-fridge, but no mini-bar; and the hotel has no hot tub, something i really enjoy and expect to find in nice hotels, particularly after a long day of touring a city on foot.

the best part about the room was the great view, but honestly, we could have had a hard bed with a standard bathroom at the days inn or the best western up the road for less money. overall, the laurel inn room was ok, but simply not 4 star.

Room Tip: confirm which wing you will be booked into, and ask about exactly what kind of room you will be gett...

“Great View and Great Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

My husband booked a room in the Laurel Wing for a night for my Birthday. We checked in with a Happy Birthday wish from the lady at the front desk. We were given a map of downtown and a list of recommended places to go for dinner. We checked into our nicely decorated room with an amazing view and discovered a card and a little Birthday Gift from the Hotel. It was very sweet!! We then went down to the pool for a swim. Upon returning to our room we noticed there was no remote and only 1 bathrobe. I made a call to the frontdesk and within 5 minutes the was a robe at the door and a hotel employee setting up the remote. The room was spacious and we left the curtains open the whole time so we could enjoy the beautiful view. We went off site for dinner(10-15 minute walk around the Inner Harbour) and the staff were gracious wether you were coming or going. We stay downtown a couple of times a year and will definatley be going back to this hotel. Thanks to all the Staff!

“A Decent Place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We ended up booking this hotel for two nights as one of the "Secret" hotel deals through Expedia. Overall, we were content with the hotel. Underground parking ($15 a night) was in a separate building, but fortunately it wasn't raining, so it didn't make much difference. The room was freezing cold upon our 1:00 am arrival, and it took awhile to get it to a comfortable temp. The room was pretty standard - clean and plain. There was a small balcony, which afforded a sort of side-ways view of the harbor. The bed was very comfortable and king-sized. My one complaint would be noise. Both nights, I was awakened by loud talking/walking in the hallways. Obviously noisy guests either arriving or returning from a late night out. If I was paying full price for this place, and if I had early appointments and needed my sleep, I would have been quite unhappy, but as we did get a good deal, and were able to sleep late....the noise was easily overlooked.

“Great location, a comfortable room and great staff.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We enjoyed two nights in the Erickson Wing including the great view of the outer harbour from our balcony . The king size bed was extremely comfortable and the large room was tastefully appointed and featured a good selection of amenities. The bathroom was impressive, finished throughout with tile and included a jetted bath, a glass enclosed shower and his and her's washbasins. The staff were exceptional and addressed our needs in a professional and friendly manner. We also used and enjoyed the swimming pool. We will definately stay at this hotel again on a future trip.

Room Tip: The rooms in the Ericksen wing offered superior bathrooms and the harbour view rooms had better view...
