you really need to do your homework on this hotel before booking, or you are likely to end up paying 4 star prices for a 2.5 star room. we were looking for a nice 2-day getaway for a couple in vancouver, and wanted to stay somewhere 4 star. our room at the laurel inn was absolutely a 2.5 star room.
we booked at the laurel inn because it showed up in searches of 4-star victoria hotels, but in fact, only half the hotel is 4 star, and it was not made clear when we booked that we would NOT be in 4-star accommodations, despite the high price of the room. in fact, the wing that we were in looked nothing like what is advertised on the website. we were apparently in a renovated room, but i would hate to see the non-renovated rooms. it was a very basic, nothing special, 2 bed room. it had only one comfortable chair, only one housecoat, a simple bathroom and 2 very hard beds. there was a mini-fridge, but no mini-bar; and the hotel has no hot tub, something i really enjoy and expect to find in nice hotels, particularly after a long day of touring a city on foot.
the best part about the room was the great view, but honestly, we could have had a hard bed with a standard bathroom at the days inn or the best western up the road for less money. overall, the laurel inn room was ok, but simply not 4 star.
Room Tip: confirm which wing you will be booked into, and ask about exactly what kind of room you will be gett...
