“Accommodated?!?!?! Not me!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

When I arrived I asked to have a view of Yates (north) or Blanshard (east). Being mid-January, I figured this would be any easily accomodated request,. (I was the only car in the parking lot that night). The nice lady at reception told me she would love to do it but it was up to her manager who would be in at 3pm...could I "wait and speak to him". "Sure" I said...when I did come back the grumpy looking man told me it was "too noisy" and he would give me a room with a "close view".

So i get upstairs and the room is on the WEST side of the building, facing a local bar/lounge, and looking directly into an office building. not the north or east side as i requested. he was nice enough to call up and make sure i made it to the room ok (besides the smack in the face from the "old hotel" smell, i had made it) and when he did i asked him about the thermostat. He told me where it was and after about an hour the baseboard heater had not clicked on. Of course, during this hour i had unpacked and made myself comfy. so you think i would get the room with the view for the hassle of having to SWITCH rooms right? Nope, not here. I had to freaken move all my unpacked crap over...what a pain in the butt, after i just wanted to relax after my long drive down the island.

Accomodating guests in the off-season is how you build a reputation for the high season.

The Continental Buffet was a surprise with the DIY Waffle Maker but it could have had a better presentation. Also, the usual muffins, bagel and prepacked quick oats, honey and peanut butter. Plastic untensils and paper plates. Of course it is only served until 10am so if your plan was to sleep in while on vaction you wont if you want the buffet.

I found the elevator and staircase quaint and I did see the potential for this to one day be a gorgeous "Boutique" hotel. oh and i must say, I slept like a baby!

Room Tip: If its winter you may want to bring an extra blanket...poor heating.

Thank you for your recent review. We were disappointed to read that you had a sub standard experience in one of our guest rooms. Since we always try to accommodate all of our guests’ requests, there are occasions where a nominal fee will apply.

In this instance, since it was point out that all rooms with a view were occupied, our outside facing STANDARD rooms were the only ones available during your stay. However, we did have available a few deluxe suites with a view but it was also refused since the nominal upgrade charge was declined.

Due to our proximity to the inner harbour, and our great downtown location, most of our guests arrive without a vehicle. Thus, the volume our parking lot has no bearing on our hotel occupancy.

Since a maintenance issue arose in the guest room, it is Hotel policy to relocate the guest to the nearest room to minimize the inconvenience but this was also declined. Of course, we are very glad to hear that you “slept like a baby “!

We are glad that you took advantage of our 3rd night free promotion, as well as the complimentary parking, deluxe continental breakfast and complimentary late check out.

If it was decided that you wanted to check out early due to dissatisfaction, we would absolutely not have charged you would have helped you find alternate accommodation.

We hope that on your next trip to Victoria, you will try one of our newly renovated suites complete with a cozy fireplace. Once again I am sorry that you left our hotel with a less than satisfactory stay. In accepting our apologies and would like to discuss this matter further, please contact our General Manager John Lioudakis at JohnL@daltonhotel.ca.

“Great location, friendly staff, good breakfast”

I brought my parents here and they really enjoyed their stay. My mom loved the convenience of the location being right in the core of downtown. My dad loved the continental breakfast, especially the waffle maker. The building was built over 100 years ago. It's a little bit old-style, but charming and the room was very clean and comfortable. One staff member named Cam was so friendly and funny. Thumbs up to him.

“A Great Over-All Value in Downtown Victoria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

It's hard to find a decent hotel in the heart of downtown Victoria in the $100 a night range. The Dalton filled the bill nicely. It was clean and convenient, with a very nice, accommodating staff.
A Continental breakfast in a side lobby room is included, complete with waffle-maker.
Our room, with two queen-size beds, was a little cramped. There wasn't much space to navigate around. We ended up putting some of our belongings on the radiator, hoping the radiator wouldn't kick in. But all was well.
The Hotel is next door to a liquor store - so you can go down and readily get something to party with, or to calm your nerves.
I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Our room was at the end of the hall, past a set of double fire doors, so although it faced the main...

“Thanksgiving weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

We stayed over Thanksgiving, October 8 - checking out on Octber 11/11; The check in process was quick, the room was quiet & very conveniently located to Victoria's downtown amenities. .Parking onsite ($10.00 a day) was very reasonable. The gal (forgot her name) @ the front desk was very accommodating, ensuring that we were aware of the hotel's amenities and any other service we required.Complementary breakfast waffles, bagels, toast, coffee, juice etc was more than adequate. Free (good signal) WiFi, is definetly a positive feature. If there are any negatives, perhaps the room was small, but I must consider the very reasonable cost of our entire stay, Yes, I would stay @ the Dalton again.

Thank you for making my stay in Victoria very pleasant.

Thank you for the wonderful comments! The staff and management really do appreciate receiving all of your positive feedback!

Yes, our exceptional downtown location, complimentary deluxe continental breakfasts and very affordable accommodation rates do attract most of our customers!

We do offer standard rooms which are less expensive and have only been updated at this time and then our new larger Boutique Rooms & Suites which have been completely renovated. All of the Boutique Suites have brand new flat screen TV's! Our Boutique Rooms and Suites also have air-conditioning, brand new heritage style furniture and are quite spacious.

Thank you again so much!

“not bad i suppose... Helpful staff”

Stayed here for one night. Great location, very central. We rang from our ferry and asked about early check-in and lady on reception was more than helpful. Once checked-in we turned on the shower for it to fall apart on us! We were then given a choice of two rooms even thou we were still on early check-in! The lady continued to give us directions and restaurant advice, so overall we haven't complaints!

Room Tip: Book in advance to get a discount!
