“Great room but poor manager”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Beautiful clean room and bath. Great neighbourhood. Our room had an odor of sewage, which was probably a temporary problem. We arrived very late and were unable to attend the 30 minute breakfast window due to obvious health problems due to cancer treatment. It would have been nice to be offered a breakfast tray, "brown bag" to go, or even juice and toast. The manager's only concern seemed to be for me to sign the Visa. We left a few hours before check out so not sure why the rushed feeling. Maybe she was just having a bad day. But unfriendly and maybe shouldn't be working at this job. Usually B and B's are a nice experience with wonderfully pleasant staff. The house was wonderful, the feeling could have been nicer. We felt rushed out, unwelcome and very disappointed. Suggest the owners have a talk with the manager. I'd recommend the property, not the staff. A few moments of pleasant help really sets the tone of a B and B.

I appreciate your complimentary comments on our house and neighbourhood. Our proximity to parks and beaches makes skunk sightings (and smellings) common. You are not the first visitors to mistake the odour of a skunk for something even less pleasant.
Our goal is for everyone’s visit to be perfect. Given advance notice of special requirements, we do all we can do accommodate them. Guests who opt out of the hot breakfast during the hours it is served, and who have not arranged for the continental option, will still find hot and cold cereal, fruit, yogurt, tea and coffee available at any hour of the day. As a result of your review we will improve communication to make this even clearer to guests who check in well after hours. But I don’t understand how your departure “a few hours before” our 11:00am check out did not coincide with the breakfast service.
Of greater concern to me is your description of our general manager as “unfriendly.” The comments of every other person who has written in our guest book, filled in a guest feedback form or left a TripAdvisor review contradict this characterization unequivocally. I am sorry you felt unwelcome; I can’t imagine a cause for it.

“K@K: Karen at Kitsilano!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We stayed at Corkscrew Inn some days at the end of June 2011. We had definite expectations about Corkscrew Inn, for we had read all the raving reviews prior to make a decision. But we found a place which was beyond expectations. First of all, Karen is such a wonderful, courteous, gentle-mannered, friendly innkeeper. Her breakfasts are exquisite, and even more exquisite is the way she talks, the politeness with which she turns to you and the natural way she smiles. She is also an inexhaustible source of useful information about shops, restaurant, buses, anything. The ambient is incredibly relaxing: all framed with dark wood, elegant furniture and well-decorated windows. All guests have their breakfast on a long and large table, where they meet and can talk; a sofa is nearby, where one can rest at any time of the day and the night. You can serve yourself coffee, tea and biscuits, which are available at any time. Carpets are downstairs and upstairs. Rooms are all well-furnished, comfortable and warm. Silence and relax is the keyword of this B&B, which is placed in the middle of the beautiful area of Kitsilano and is very, very close to Kitsilano Beach. All the area is full of shops and restaurant. An experience that we strongly recommend and that we would like to repeat, in order to be cared for by Karen again. More than a B&B, this is a K@K!

“Perfect”

We stayed at the inn for 4 nights, early December. Our daughter had found it for us as it was in walking distance from her.
The inn is very interesting, with all the corkscrews and amazing stained glass windows.
Breakfast was delightful every morning.
Karen and Wayne made our stay very comfortable.
Will be back, on our next visit for sure.

Room Tip: All rooms looked delightful.

“Great place to stay in Vancouver!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

We spent a wonderful night at the Corkscrew Inn. Beautiful, warm, inviting and immaculate. Wayne is a welcoming host and prepares a delicious breakfast. Our room was very comfortable and equipped with everything we needed including thick plush towels and nice bedding. They even had an armoire in the hall equipped with all kinds of toiletries and supplies for guests that may have forgotten to bring something.

We highly recommend the Corkscrew Inn if you want a cozy, comfortable place to stay.

“Perfect Place to Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

I was in Vancouver for a conference at UBC and stayed at the Corkscrew Inn for 3 nights. It was charming, comfortable, friendly, and the restoration of the home was truly impressive. My room was a good size, fully equipped with everything I could possibly need; the common areas were welcoming. Great breakfast and courteous staff. Perfect location: close to all of the restaurants/bars/shops in Kitsilano, and only 2 short streets up from the bus stop (<10 minute ride to campus). I hope to have an opportunity to return!
