“Large, Clean, Secure, Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

We stayed here from Boxing Day until the day after New Years' Day and had a fantastic time!
There are so many accolades that I could give this property that I have to put them into categories.

*Location*
Viva Suites could not be better located for those who are on a vacation or working vacation (as we were). Although not "strictly" in the Vancouver financial district, it was conveniently located 1 blk away from Granville, Davie, and Burrard streets, and 2-3 blks away from the water.
Since we were in the heart of things, it was easy to walk everywhere. 10 mins to Extra Valu Foods, less to smaller grocers. 2 mins to private liquor store, or 10 mins to public one. 1 min (across street) to convenience store. If you're into shopping, Robson St is about a 7-10 min walk away. If you're into sports, BC Place is about 10+ mins walk.

*Security*
In addition to having a separate lobby and entrance for "residential" guests (the first 7 floors are businesses), the residential elevator had key control as well - we could only get to our own floor (and would assume guests on other floors could not access ours.
The parking also was really secure - important since downtown Vancouver parking garages are not known being security. There were *2* sets of secure doors to drive through, each a level between them - no one was going to get in (or out) unless they belonged there. There was also a security guard on duty in the evenings and into the morning.
Overall, Vancouver's westend is a very safe place, but these touches made it feel great!

*Service*
Everything was totally professional - from first contact through to all interactions with staff. We needed to have some printing done (yes, in 2011!), and the reception desk was more than happy to help! When we checked in, the reception was closed, but the security guard was fully prepared to check us in to our suite. Perfect!

*Suite*
Yes! The photos & floorplans on their website are accurate! The suites are enormous, well taken care of, fully stocked and clean. This was the FIRST place I've stayed that had more hangers in the closets than I needed - in the large bedroom closet, the 2m long hall closet, and the 1.5m long living area closet.
The kitchen was well appointed with excellent applicances - full stove, fridge, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, kettle, toaster and garburator. There was more than enough cutlery, cooking & serving utensils, cookware, dinnerware, and the list goes on!
The living area fireplace and heated marble floors throughout (except bedroom - carpeted) really made the place feel luxe. The dining table, 2 sofas, desk, and 2 side tables made sprawling out to work a breeze.
I could go on, but really, just look at the photos!

*Overall*
I would definitely stay again!
There are only a few things to keep in mind about the suite & property:
-The maid service is only once during the week (not an issue for us)
-The colour scheme is dated (but factored into the price)
-The welcome basket is a really nice touch! (I'd like to have the option of a more utilitarian welcome basket next time - coffee filters, laundry detergent, salt & pepper, etc.)

Have I mentioned that I'd stay again?

Room Tip: If you're spending little time in the room, get a smaller one.

Thank you for providing such an extensive review as we really appreciate the feedback. We are now looking into adding a few of the amenities you suggested to our welcome baskets as we think it would be of great help to include some of those necessities.
We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay and are looking forward to seeing you agin in the future.

“Felt like home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

We stayed as a couple in November 2011 for 1 week. The entire process from booking to checking-out was very easy. Our suite was the one bedroom deluxe on the 8th floor which is approximately 786 sq. ft. (according to their website). It was very spacious for 2 people.

The unit was located in downtown Vancouver and was very close to major attractions such as Stanley Park, Pacific Centre and Granville Island. Although this property is a bit on the older side, it has been well maintained. Our unit was clean and had fairly nice views of the city and mountains. There is quite a bit of construction going on around the hotel which isn't very nice to look at and it can get noisy if you are home during the day. As others have mentioned in their reviews, the suite felt more like home than a hotel room, which is important when staying seven days or more in a place. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you need to cook, should you choose to. There was a washer and dryer, which is great if you are packing light or don't want to lug dirty clothes dirty clothes home (e.g. I washed our stuff after a day of hiking). The bed was super comfortable, lots of pillows and the sheets were clean and fresh. Towels and a robe were provided, and there were Bath and Body Works products in the bathroom. Housekeeping was twice-a-week, which worked for us since we're not messy people. The housekeeper was very nice and did a great job but we didn't need her to come a second time. It was just nice to have our sheets and towels changed during the week. Oh and there was welcome basket for us when we arrived, which included sparkling water, mini Toblerone and Ferrero Rocher, peanuts, almonds, M&M cookies, and microwaveable popcorn.

We checked in and out on the weekend so the administration office was closed as they are only open Monday to Friday. But the friendly security guard (didn't catch his name) helped us with this process and it went smoothly. Prior to our stay, I interacted with the staff via email and they are professional and friendly. The unit also comes with one underground parking spot which was great as we rented a car. The security for the building is very tight - a security guard at the front entrance and a pass card is required to access each hotel entrance and floor.

The rate we paid was $128.17 per night not including taxes. Overall, I would highly recommend Viva Suites to anyone looking for a cost-efficient place to stay in Vancouver.

“Great Alternative to a Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

What a great alternative to staying in a hotel for a month in Vancouver. The apartment was very spacious with full facilities allowing us to dine in or out at our convenience. The location was perfect being close to Granville Island (check out the public market for food) and only a few blocks from the downtown areas of Robson Street and Coal Harbour with English Bay and Stanley Park both a few minutes away. On-site parking and cycle storage lockers made for easy living and we felt very comfortable with the whole set-up.

“great value and service”

I had a trip to Vancouver that was one week in length. I did not like the prospect of staying in a hotel, and was delighted to find Viva. The room was exceptional, felt much more like home than a hotel room, the service was top notch, and the location was perfect. I am a confirmed user of their service and will use it each time I return to Vancouver. Bob Barnum

“Great apartments with spectacular views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2011

We stayed over Christmas and had great service from the team after our outward flights were delayed by two days. We were in the 4 bed apartment on the 14th floor. Each bedroom has access to a balcony and vast amounts of closet/wardrobe storage. With a huge lounge and a snug with its own fire we had plenty of space to spread out and relax - and when top-end hotels still continue to charge for WiFi the free access was a big plus with teenagers. Inclusive underground car parking is also a bonus. All in all we would definitely return when next in Vancouver and would recommend Viva Suites to other visitors.
