“Nice Location, but service could be improved”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I stayed at the Opus Vancouver for 2 nights in December and was not impressed. The location is nice - Right in the middle of Yaletown across the street from the Canada line sky train station. However the rooms were very small and noisy, partially due to the club downstairs but also due to it being close to a noisy street. Keep in mind I live in Toronto in a very trendy part of town and I am a young professional who likes to party, so this isn't a baseless complaint. Also I found the staff not to be the most helpful: e.g. recommendations for a nice restaurant for sushi was met with 2 places that were close by ... when I asked if they were any good, I saw them and they looked suspect but who am i to judge, they did not even bother to look further into other options... the sushi at the place they recommended was probably the only bad sushi place in Vancity! ... Also another staffer dropped my snowboard on the ground from an upright position and didn't even apologize ... I have been back to Vancouver since then and needless to say I did not stay at Opus!

Dear Guest, we wanted to respond and acknowledge your comments from your stay back with us in December 2011. We were disappointed to hear of your experience, and how our team was not able to provide its usual stellar service. Our Guest Service staff are aware of your points regarding the restaurant recommendation, and have since gone through a review to ensure we are up to date with the various popular destinations in Vancouver. I would like to express our apologies for your poor experience, and to offer to answer any questions or requests by directly contacting me at nganodssi@opushotel.com Thank you again for taking the time to pass along your feedback, and hopefully we will have another opportunity to welcome you back to OPUS.

Sincerely,

Nicholas Gandossi

“Beyond expectations.”

Great vibe, super comfortable room (deluxe king), loved the heated washroom floor. The Hello Kitty pez dispenser left by house-keeping was a very nice touch. The lounge was also very happening both Friday and Saturday nights. Will visit again.

Only problem was the shades had gaps between them so didn't completely keep the sun out in the morning.

“Love the Opus”

We have stayed at the Opus hotel twice now. It couldn't be a better location and we've never been treated so well at any hotel- anywhere. Fantastic service. We felt like celebrities. Staff was very attentive. We were given great advice on where to go and what to do. We were driven in the hotel car to destinations and loaned bikes for a fun ride around Stanley Park. We were there on my husband's birthday and when we returned from dinner, the turn down service included birthday cupcakes, a pitcher of water a note and soft music. The rooms are very nice and unique. We couldn't recommend the Opus more.

“A perfect romantic getaway”

My boyfriend and I just returned from a short weekend stay at the OPUS Hotel Vancouver, and I must say it was the best hotel we have stayed in together. As soon as we arrived, our car was taken with a smile by the valet. We checked in, and despite arriving very early in the morning, we were able to get into our room--a nice extra we hadn't counted on. We walked into the room and were both immediately impressed with all the attention to details--nice music was playing, the decor was tasteful and cool, and we observed the nice design elements throughout, like hidden sockets, a beautiful caraffe, and a little card describing that day's predicted weather. The hotel is obviously run by people with an eye for the small things, a fact that we appreciated.

I ran off to a meeting and he took a little nap. As I was leaving, the concierge was very helpful and helped me figure out how to get where I needed to be, and he did it efficiently and clearly--very helpful as I had never been to Vancouver before. When I got back from my meeting, we took advantage of the hotel's free bike rental. We inquired at the desk, were given the option of cruisers or mountain bikes, and within minutes two cruisers appeared on the sidewalk out front. The concierge helped us with our helmets and suggested a couple bike routes. We enjoyed a nice afternoon zipping around town. When we got back the staff were all so friendly, asking us how the ride went, offering advice for planning our evening. They suggested a few nice restaurants and everyone was so warm.

When we got back from dinner, we decided to borrow DVDs from the front desk to watch in the room. There was an eclectic selection of movies, and the front desk staff were friendly when helping us pick them out. We watched DVDs on the great system in the room, enjoying nice sound and a big flatscreen. Also, when we got back to the room, the turndown service included a pez dispenser left on the bed! What a fun treat--it really made us laugh.

In the morning, we went down to the restaurant for our continental breakfast, included with our reservation. The card given with our keys clearly stated what the breakfast included, and there were no confusions (unlike the misguided guest who wrote the earlier review about how she didn't understand what was included--it's very clearly stated). Breakfast was delicious--nice granola with yoghurt, tea or coffee, wonderful pastries, fruit, and fresh squeezed OJ. It was a perfect start to our day. Then we went up to the nicely-equipped business center to check directions to my next meeting. It was a nice setup with huge monitors, printers, and nicely-designed furniture.

As we checked out after breakfast, we couldn't stop raving about what a wonderful time we had, and I hope we can come back soon. As I was in town on business, my boyfriend and I agreed that we would both try and have more business trips to Vancouver soon so we can stay at the OPUS again. We loved it. Thank you to all the staff who made our weekend so special!
