I have just returned to the UK having spent 12 days at this hotel == photos can lie - unfortunately. My journey went as follows -- arrived at YVR airport - I recommend the use of the Canada Line Sky train which is up the escalators opposite the airport exit - $8 dollars gets you to downtown Vancouver == Granville Street is extremely long and the hotel is located a good way from Waterfront == which is the station I accidentally went to and then had to walk about 8 blocks. The further up Granville Street you go'the cosmopolitan' Vancouver depletes and you find yourself in the bygone days Granville Street. The first impression of the hotel reception was that of a 'boudoire' with its very dated decor and layout, not what we are used to seeing in modern format hotels. (in this area there is the Holliday Inn and Best Western) (Incidentally this hotel is supposed to have been extensively refurbished in recent times ) The reception is exposed to the street by a huge glass window. The reception staff booked me in and because of the disappointed look on my face they upgraded me to a Queen room, which surprised me because I had in fact booked a Queen room through booking.com. The room was at the back of the Hotel and obviously no views. The layout was a proper bed (I think some rooms have flimsy put you up type beds) with settee and ensuite together with a fridge. There is no restaurant, next door is the equivilent of a pub, it s called Morrisseys - which has access from the hotel. First impressions was that of a saloon bar in a cowboys film- wooden floors, table, chairs etc. and the wallpaper looked as if it had been clawed at or perhaps they decided on one day they would redecorate but then changed their minds the next, Now I would like to say the following - cannot fault the cleanliness of the bed linen = towels and bathroom. I realised that the location of my room was good since next door is a nightclub and I was spared any disturbance. I cannot fault the staff and this includes from Manager down to the cleaning staff. The location of the hotel means that just outside is the bus stop which has all busses stopping and for a daily bus pass of $9 you can get on all transport systems for all day. Around the hotel area are the most superb shops restaurants coffee bars - in fact everything to enhance your stay. This hotel seems to offer a range of accomodation that suits - weekend away stays == contractors both short term and long term = people en route to other locations etc, But all in all the location of this hotel eventually suited my needs - but a Hilton it is not but neither is the price and on that note I close my review
