Favorite things about this hotel: Location, staff
Excellent quiet location near quiet Stanley park in West End. Not too far from downtown, could walk (bit long) or take the bus.
We booked this prepaid, 2 bedroom 2 bath with kitchen; good price. Great way for 2 couples to get a reasonable room in the West End of Vancouver. Quiet, lovely area, right next to Stanley Park, a few blocks from Denman, bustling street full of restaurants. If you want the hop on hop off bus, at least one company stops nearby and they all go to Stanley Park. Price was excellent with a non cancellation policy.
When we got there, we were offered an upgrade to the 1900 sq ft penthouse for $150 a night more, far less than the cost of that place normally. After we saw it we couldn't resist. Huge! Sunny and bright (at least when it wasn't cloudy!) compared to the rooms downstairs with 360 degree windows. The deck seems as big as the penthouse, with a gas grill and two dining tables in separate areas, lovingly tended flowers, fabulous view. Private. The place was beautiful, though the master bedroom was much better than the 2nd bedroom, very large with a jacuzi tub in the glamourous hollywood style bathroom as well as a large shower. Pix of Katherine Hepburn everywhere. Sliding doors onto the decks from master BR and bar. There was also a dining room, living room with fireplace, a bar area and little office space for setting up our computers.
They say Katherine Hepburn stayed there - I can believe it, though the entryway is accessed through a firedoor and stairway up, no elevator. Did she walk?? Guess so.
Excellent big fluffy towels, comfy bed, beautiful furnishings along with wine glasses and kitchenware in the granite-countered kitchen that also had a washer and dryer we used.
Not all was perfect; there was a slight smell, from rain/moisture, the beautiful shower had no shelves for shampoo or soap, and the second bathroom had no towel racks. In the master bedroom, you walk through the closet area (2 large closets) to find the double sinks at the end of the hall along with the door to the grill area. Rather unusual layout! Overall big fun, and some oddities were nothing compared to the other furnishings.
Everyone at the front desk was so very helpful, eager to answer questions, show us how to get places on the handy city maps, recommend restaurants, print out menus, whatever they could do do help. Staff was truly excellent. Our place was cleaned beautifully every day too, even dirty dishes put into dishwasher.
