i have stayed in this hotel for 3 weeks as it was the only hotel that offered me a very good price as a travel agent!!!!
the hotel is very very old, and needs a renovations ASAP. during the time i stayed i did not mind it as my budget was very limit and i was only 25 yrs old..
the hotel is located on Robson Street a very lively street full of shops, coffee shops, resaurants.... everything is there!!!! i dont recommend this hotel to families, i recommend it only to students or low budget people. futher more we had a lovely time in Vancouver, its such a lovely city so we did not mind about the hotel standard..... dont forget to rent a car and visit Whistler Mountain and Seattle...

I stayed at the Barclay as part of a group travelling for work. First impressions not good - the lobby looks and smells tired; there is no lift, so we had to lug suitcases up several flights of stairs. The rooms are basic and functional; we had no inclination to spend more time in them than strictly necessary. There is a continental breakfast (not included, but not expensive) which veers between the dubious and the acceptable. On the plus side, free wifi, though it is somewhat temperamental. The main draws here are the location and (I imagine) the low rates. But if your priorities are anything other than these, then look elsewhere.

So here is the score on this hotel - There are 'New' rooms (that are perfectly acceptable) and 'old' rooms which look quite unacceptable. We were lucky enough to get a new room 216. Everything in the room was new, the bed was very comfortable, Bathroom was perfectly acceptable for a budget hotel. We were extremely concerned with the reviews on tripadvisor about bed bugs and I actually talked to the manager about it and he reassured me, said they had problems in the past but that there would be no bugs and I had a check when I got to the room as well - bed bug free! The stairs weren't as much as a problem as we had heard... So everything was satisfactory. Remember though - this is a budget hotel - in a awesome location so don't expect luxury. Aside from the rooms, the staff were absolutely lovely, helped us whenever possible, and very friendly. I don't exactly know how to score this hotel - I probably would've rated it ALOT differently if we were in one of the horrible old rooms so .. opt for a new one!! As well the occasional noisey guest is a problem as well - it being a budget hotel gets alot of partiers.. we had one night we were kept up - literally all night by the room across the way but one night out of a four .. the other 3 nights were very peaceful!

This hotel was a last minute substitute for the Patricia Hotel which was a complete and utter dump which I gave 1 star on trip advisor.
The Barclay Hotel was a step up from the terrible category to the poor category.
We stayed here 1 night. It is very dated and small. The cleanliness was below average. The location is ok. (Depending where you want to go obviously).
If you want the bars a bit more trendy with good restaurants you need to be in Yale town.
There is parking. Can't remember how much it cost. It was no more than $10 per night.
This hotel would be best suited for a solo male that needs a cheap head down for the night.
I wouldn't recommend for couples, family or friends.
