We booked our two-night stay at Seafarer's B&B because of all the effusive reviews on tripadvisor. And at a price of 175 CAD (+12% HST = total 196 CAD) per night I certainly have corresponding expectations.
When we arrived we were warmly welcomed by Ziggy who showed us our rooms upstairs. Both rooms are spacious, nicely decorated, have a gas fireplace (which didn't work during our stay) and very large and modern bathrooms. My husband and I preferred the "Portside" room, because it has more windows, even two large windows in the bathroom. The room "Santa Fe" is less bright and doesn't have a window in the bathroom. Both rooms offer everything you might need: comfy beds, sitting area, small table, TV, enough towels, hairdryer, shampoo & body lotion, coffee maker and even a small jar of candies. The only downside of both rooms is: you can not only hear but also UNDERSTAND every word that is spoken downstairs as well as in the suite on the same level that seems to be rented to a small family. Hence at around 7.30 am the night was definitely over.
Breakfast is at 9.00 am - not earlier - not later! Since we were wondering to take part in a bear watching tour at 6.30 am at the next morning, we asked Ziggy (on our first morning) whether it would be possible to have our breakfast the next morning at 9.15 am (15 minutes later than usually). This was refused by Ziggy, instead she offered us to prepare a breakfast package for each of us, though. We explained to Ziggy that we hadn't made a decision yet regarding the early morning tour and that we would let her know, in case we were not able to have breakfast at 9.00 am the next morning (the day of our departure).
Our first breakfast was okay, but unfortunately not outstanding like all the other reviewers described. That's what we had: as a first course we had a warm caramelized grape fruit (delicious) and as a second course scrambled eggs with mushrooms and two fried potato patties (frozen product). And then there was a basket with muffins and little sweet baked goods, two different kind of jam, butter, cereals and orange juice. No cheese or cold cut.
When we returned from dinner the same day at around 10.00 pm Ziggy came upstairs and informed us that she had already prepared our "breakfast boxes" and left them in the fridge. We were quite surprised and frankly not exactly happy about this. Of course Ziggy apologized for the misunderstanding and since we didn't want to fuel a debate about her lonely decision at this late hour, we didn't make a big deal about the situation.
But for my liking Ziggy topped it off when she asked us to pay the bill right away, because "she might sleep in at the next morning". I know, Ziggy will hate me for writing this: but while processing the credit card downstairs I had to wait in the kitchen, and frankly it looked quite untidy and scruffy - so at this point I was happy to not have another breakfast coming out of this kitchen. Sorry, Ziggy!
Overall Seafarer's B&B has a beautiful and very quite location, just a few steps from the beach, far away from the centre of Tofino, though. The rooms are nice and comfy, but very noisy. Since we have stayed at different B&B's especially within the last year I wouldn't say that it is exactly a "very good value for the price".
