“Very strange: despite all the good reviews, we had a bit different experience ...”

We booked our two-night stay at Seafarer's B&B because of all the effusive reviews on tripadvisor. And at a price of 175 CAD (+12% HST = total 196 CAD) per night I certainly have corresponding expectations.

When we arrived we were warmly welcomed by Ziggy who showed us our rooms upstairs. Both rooms are spacious, nicely decorated, have a gas fireplace (which didn't work during our stay) and very large and modern bathrooms. My husband and I preferred the "Portside" room, because it has more windows, even two large windows in the bathroom. The room "Santa Fe" is less bright and doesn't have a window in the bathroom. Both rooms offer everything you might need: comfy beds, sitting area, small table, TV, enough towels, hairdryer, shampoo & body lotion, coffee maker and even a small jar of candies. The only downside of both rooms is: you can not only hear but also UNDERSTAND every word that is spoken downstairs as well as in the suite on the same level that seems to be rented to a small family. Hence at around 7.30 am the night was definitely over.

Breakfast is at 9.00 am - not earlier - not later! Since we were wondering to take part in a bear watching tour at 6.30 am at the next morning, we asked Ziggy (on our first morning) whether it would be possible to have our breakfast the next morning at 9.15 am (15 minutes later than usually). This was refused by Ziggy, instead she offered us to prepare a breakfast package for each of us, though. We explained to Ziggy that we hadn't made a decision yet regarding the early morning tour and that we would let her know, in case we were not able to have breakfast at 9.00 am the next morning (the day of our departure).

Our first breakfast was okay, but unfortunately not outstanding like all the other reviewers described. That's what we had: as a first course we had a warm caramelized grape fruit (delicious) and as a second course scrambled eggs with mushrooms and two fried potato patties (frozen product). And then there was a basket with muffins and little sweet baked goods, two different kind of jam, butter, cereals and orange juice. No cheese or cold cut.

When we returned from dinner the same day at around 10.00 pm Ziggy came upstairs and informed us that she had already prepared our "breakfast boxes" and left them in the fridge. We were quite surprised and frankly not exactly happy about this. Of course Ziggy apologized for the misunderstanding and since we didn't want to fuel a debate about her lonely decision at this late hour, we didn't make a big deal about the situation.

But for my liking Ziggy topped it off when she asked us to pay the bill right away, because "she might sleep in at the next morning". I know, Ziggy will hate me for writing this: but while processing the credit card downstairs I had to wait in the kitchen, and frankly it looked quite untidy and scruffy - so at this point I was happy to not have another breakfast coming out of this kitchen. Sorry, Ziggy!

Overall Seafarer's B&B has a beautiful and very quite location, just a few steps from the beach, far away from the centre of Tofino, though. The rooms are nice and comfy, but very noisy. Since we have stayed at different B&B's especially within the last year I wouldn't say that it is exactly a "very good value for the price".

“THIS is the B&B to stay at while exploring Tofino!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2010

Unbelievable in so many ways! Where can we start to expound upon its virtues?
#1. The beauty of the landscape: North Chesterman Beach, one of the more famous beaches in the Tofino area, is a short walk across the road!
#2. The building and the rooms: Designed by the owners and built to their specifications~ The attention to detail is phenomenal, and is obvious that it was built with the comfort of each guest in mind. There is a hot-tub on the patio, robes and slippers for guest use, a fridge, and a DIY tea/coffee/beverage table in the shared sitting alcove. Each room is HUGE! Choice of either a King-bed suite or Queen and Twin-beds suite. Both rooms have a comfy sitting area, gas fireplace, TV, and SPA-cious bathroom! (hint: would not recommend using the jets in the over-sized tub after adding a LUSH bath-bomb to the water~ unless you want to clean up a huge bubble mess!)
#3. The Gourmet Breakfasts made FROM SCRATCH and WITH LOVE, served every morning (@9am sharp!): Eggs Benedict, Blueberry Crepes with yoghurt filling, The BEST French toast ever, served with Freshly baked Muffins and Croissants is just a partial sampling of the outstanding fare we were served!
#4.The genuine warmth and love of the couple that manage the B&B: John and Siegrun (Ziggy) are two of the most loving, caring, thoughtful and hospitable people we have ever met. They really encouraged us to 'make their home, OUR home' ~ they even gave us slippers when we first arrived, and allowed us to eat breakfast in our PJ's! We were sad when we left, and immediately wanted to cancel our return flight home to stay another week... what can we say? We loved every minute of it, and thoroughly enjoyed our time spent there with them. The words THANK YOU! do not seem to fully express the extent of our gratitude that we feel towards this wonderful couple.
Until we see you again~ Thank you so much!

“Nice”

We booked this B&B because of the Tripadvisor reviews, it's proximity to Chesterman Beach and it is pet-friendly. This B&B was pretty good value for the dollar. The Beach is literally across the street from this B&B (but also results in Seafarer's not having a direct view upon the ocean).

Breakfast was very good every morning. High end meals, including french toast, eggs benedict and pancakes.

We stayed in the Portside room, which was very clean when we checked in. BUT - our bed was never made during the three nights/four days that we stayed there. I found this unusual, having stayed at many hotels and B&Bs during the course of my travels. At $175 per night, I don't think its unreasonable to expect coming back to a nice, clean room.

The hosts are very talkative. Too talkative, in my opinion. During our first breakfast, we didn't get out of the dining room for at least 1.5 hours. Not a plus in my books, but this could be for other couples.

“WONDERFUL!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2010

We stayed three days in Tofino and we would recommend this B&B.
It's ten minutes drive to the town and two minutes walk to the incredible Chesterman beach.
Our room (the Portside one) was very large, very comfortable and with the Jacuzzi in the bathroom ensuite. Breakfast was absolutely good: Ziggy is an incredible cook and his husband John a good assistant chef! But don't believe him when he says that the apricot grows in his garden!
And don't forget to have a walk on Chesterman beach with their lovely dog Sheeba.

“Home From Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2010

We stayed at the Seafarers in July 2010, and it was a 'Home from Home'..The Portside room was large and very clean, and everything provided, tea, coffee, 'fridge etc.
Ziggy and John who owned it were the perfect hosts, giving tips about the area, yet giving you privacy. Ziggys breakfasts were wonderful, and set you up for the day, my only regret was I couldn't eat it all.
We would certainly recommend this to anyone going to Tofino, and if we ever return would not hesitate to stay there again.
There is a nice beach opposite, where the surfers go, litterally across the road.
