we travelled on motorbikes and the Clayoquot Orca Lodge seemed a good stepping stone for our stay on Vancoover Isalnd. The hotel and management have largely exeeded our expectations. bear and whale watching are just the best, the sea plane, spectacular flight.

Normally I am fairly understanding of people having an "off-day" especially in the customer service industry, however we were paying top dollar to stay in one of this hotels higher end rooms and to be greeted by this toothless old bitty who was condescending, sleazy and outright rude was a precursor into what the whole experience would be like. We were told the fireplace wasn't workng, there was no jacuzzi, and the second bed (hide-a-bed) was broken...and she insisted we pay up front before we saw the room (should have been our first clue). We required 2 beds so we were moved to a room with a view of a rock, no phone, towels that should have been retired months ago, a sour smelling bathroom and a tiny old television. Oh yes, before I forget, when I complained that they advertised on the inernet that the room we selected had several amenities she was telling us were not available she asked me if "I was american" ...insult understood.
They call themselves a sanctuary, but in essence it is just a really big backyard, their dining area and lounge is severely outdated and their dusty rose palette needs updating. The place is a stinker!!!

We stayed here for two nights but would have been happy to stay longer. The room was very big and very clean with plenty of toiletries. It had a fridge, microwave, tea and coffee.

As soon as we arrived and walked around the lodge to our room it had a very homely feel. The staff were very friendly and were very good with local knowledge. They are only too happy to help and to talk about your day.

The lodge is about 10minute drive from the town of Tofino, but there is a path and bike path all the way to town. It has its own resident St. Bernard to chase off the bears! Which is really friendly.

I would definately stay here again.

Immaculately clean rooms. Pretty setting.setting. Quiet. Excellent salmon dinner in restaurant. GM Monique is a treat. Owner Oliva is was very accommodating and has a wealth of knowledge about the area.
