“One bedroom not worth it.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

We rented the one bedroom condo at Cox Bay Resort:
1. No view at all except into the neighbor's condo. I think the 2 bedroom condos may have a view.
2. Have to shut all the blinds to have privacy since we were surrounded by other units looking into ours.
3. They shut down the hot-tub and exercise room at 9pm! Felt like we were in a senior's complex.
4. Their "observation" room for storm watching is tiny, sits 4 people and the chairs are not even arranged to face the ocean.

I am so glad we got this reservation on a deal, I would have been really mad and felt ripped off if we had paid full price. There are much better places to stay in Tofino for better prices.

Room Tip: Definitely don't get the ground floor one bedroom!

“Comfortable accomodation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My wife and I spent a night here. Access to the beach walking in amazing as well as the view from the veiwing longe. Exercise room and hot tub are available for all guests. The price is right for anone wanting a selfcontained unit to live in. Complete kitchen, cosy living room and comfy bed. Large, deep bathtub and shower with bathroom floor heated.

Room Tip: The closer to the beach the better.

“Great location for a relaxing getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

If the weather is good, you’ll be happy staying just about anywhere in Tofino or Ucluelet. If it’s bad, which it often is in winter, and you find yourself staying indoors, you’ll be glad you chose this comfortable resort. Units are spotlessly clean, spacious and tastefully furnished, with well-equipped kitchens, so if you don’t feel like braving the elements, you can enjoy a meal at home and a DVD in front in the fireplace. (And if you have trouble with the DVD player, staff will pop over to help.)

There is no restaurant on the property, but it takes only two minutes to walk via the beach to the adjacent Long Beach Lodge Resort. Its restaurant is on the pricey side, but the food and setting are enjoyable, and you don’t have to worry about drinking and driving.

Cox Bay is pleasant for strolling, but a 30-minute drive to Ucluelet takes you to the more interesting shoreline of the Wild Pacific Trail. Very nice walks and views there, especially if the sun cooperates.

We didn’t get to use the common lounge at the resort as it was closed for a wedding. No big deal, since we found our unit perfectly comfortable. The only negative is that because the front desk closes around 9-10 p.m. and there are no security patrols, you may be subject to the yelling and whooping of guests who let themselves into the outdoor hot tub after it’s supposed to be closed for the night. This happened on our first night, but thankfully, there was no repeat performance.

“Lovely winter getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

We held an early family Christmas at the Cox Bay Beach Resort this year. We rented two suites for ourselves and our adult children. We could not have had a more perfect holiday!! We set up our little Christmas tree, and the full kitchen in the suite provided enough amenities for us to prepare a full turkey dinner. The rooms are cozy and well-maintained (loved the heated tile floors in the bathroom!). The staff is friendly and provide as much (or as little) assistance as you need. The beach location is awesome - lots of open space for a long walk and little trails here and there leading to more secluded areas. I would highly recommend this resort for a family gathering of any type. They have a fabulous common room with big, comfy couches, a huge rock fireplace, a full kitchen, two large barbeques, and a great big table that would seat a large gathering. The only negative thing I would say is that my back did not appreciate the feather-bed mattress cover on the bed, so I didn't sleep as well as I would have liked.

Room Tip: Be aware that you have to transport your luggage a fair distance as the parking lot is up a hill fro...

“Quiet elegance, raging oceanfront...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

November may not the be the best time to enjoy the sunshine and warmth of a Vancouver Island beach, but if you're interested in strolling on the beach with mother nature raging and frothing in your face then Tofino is the place to head. Storm watching has become Tofino, Ucluelet and Long Beach's second wind with many of the lodgings and restaurants filling to capacity during the winter months. And Cox Bay Resort was no exception; even more attractive due to very competitive special pricing for their one bedroom suites. I was pleasantly surprised by the modern quarry stone tile and wood finish, gas stove cooktop and well-equiped kitchen and warm & cosy living room with gas fireplace, widescreen tv and dvd player. It just got better as there was a separate fitness studio with adjacent showers and sauna, an outdoor hot tub, a communal lounge with kitchen and gas fireplace and even a cosy look-out with its own gas fireplace and romantic seating for four (to watch the storm from a comfortable, dry vantage. Access is directly to Cox Bay and there was outside storage for surfboards and bikes. . . We needed some attention from room service and it was prompt and courteous. Overall, I would stay here many times over and thought the value was above average for the quality of the lodging.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean view... top units have better views, but lower units have easier access. Settle...
