If the weather is good, you’ll be happy staying just about anywhere in Tofino or Ucluelet. If it’s bad, which it often is in winter, and you find yourself staying indoors, you’ll be glad you chose this comfortable resort. Units are spotlessly clean, spacious and tastefully furnished, with well-equipped kitchens, so if you don’t feel like braving the elements, you can enjoy a meal at home and a DVD in front in the fireplace. (And if you have trouble with the DVD player, staff will pop over to help.)
There is no restaurant on the property, but it takes only two minutes to walk via the beach to the adjacent Long Beach Lodge Resort. Its restaurant is on the pricey side, but the food and setting are enjoyable, and you don’t have to worry about drinking and driving.
Cox Bay is pleasant for strolling, but a 30-minute drive to Ucluelet takes you to the more interesting shoreline of the Wild Pacific Trail. Very nice walks and views there, especially if the sun cooperates.
We didn’t get to use the common lounge at the resort as it was closed for a wedding. No big deal, since we found our unit perfectly comfortable. The only negative is that because the front desk closes around 9-10 p.m. and there are no security patrols, you may be subject to the yelling and whooping of guests who let themselves into the outdoor hot tub after it’s supposed to be closed for the night. This happened on our first night, but thankfully, there was no repeat performance.
