Wow, I just read the last review and am so sorry they had a bad experience. All I can say is that we just returned from a delightful stay at the Sky Valley Inn and we can't wait to return. I think a testament to the owners is that the two other couples we met last week were both return visitors. The inn is lovely with amazing views and the breakfasts, although diet-busters, were delicious. We traveled with our two teenage sons. I was worried they would not have a good time, but between playing with the adorable dogs and lying in the hammock, they are also ready to return.
It is true that most of the rooms have sliding glass doors to the patio, so you might not feel as private. Moreover, the innkeepers do live in the home. I have stayed at other B and Bs that feel more like commercial establishments. Sky Valley feels like being a guest in someone's home. Some people might not enjoy that as much. I really like meeting people at B and B's and talking over breakfast, so it was great for us. Richard and Cornelia were gracious hosts, although I think Richard is a little more outgoing. My husband and I lead busy lives in Los Angeles and we just felt that Salt Spring Island, in general, and Sky Valley Inn, in particular, were really special experiences. I do not think I have ever seen my husband more relaxed.
The only other caveat I have is that you do need a car on the island. I would urge anyone looking for a beautiful and restful retreat to come visit.
