“Salt Spring Spa - nice getaway from Vancouver”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011 via mobile

This place is nestled along the northern coast of Salt Spring Island, in a place that is quite difficult to reach if you don't have a car (an alternative option is to take the bus to Fernwood dock, from there it is 15 minutes on foot). The chalets are very nice and warm inside. They are equipped with semi-full kitchen (fridge,MW,stovetop and sink, but no oven), small fireplace (although the wood which is provided is too damp, and it is almostimpossible to set up a proper fire), a nice cozy room, and spacious bathroom with a dedicated separate space for double-jetted jacuzzi tub. The latter is the real treat of this place, really worth a visit just to try that. Overall we found the place not super-clean, and some of the towels (and one bathrobe) had a strange smell, but nothing terrible. The also provide wireless internet, but the bandwidth is seriously poor (I measured ~50 kbps), plus the wi-fi did not work for an entire day during our stay. i believe this is somehow due to the remote position of this place, so do not expect broadband connection when you get there.
Overall we had a nice stay tough, and the landscape towards the ocean is really amazing.

Thank you for your review. We're so happy to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. We have looked into your issue with the towels and robes and have discovered that the new unscented organic detergent we switched to was not quite fragrant enough. We have opted for a naturally scented one and have also made an order of new robes and towels to replace any worn out or older ones. We're very sorry about the internet speed here, we also have the same problem in the office sometimes due to our remote location which still depends on telephone lines which cannot exceed 3mb/s bandwidth for the whole resort. Then again there's something liberating about being away from the modern wired lifestyle (unless you're on a work trip ;) We hope to see you again soon.

Sincerely,

Shaughn Jenson, GM

“tranquility, relaxation, and romance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

A fire was prepared for our stay in the chalet, all that was needed was a single match. The cabin was comfortable, clean, and cosy. The interior is all wood, with a wood buring fire, a full kitchen, and a mineral hydro-jet jacuzzi. We stayed in a forest suite; which I think is best, as there is more privacy, and the area is full of large trees and nice undergrowth. Grab a bottle of Salt Spring Island wine, and enjoy a relaxing soak! If booking one or two days before your stay (as we did) you get 10% off your stay! We completely enjoyed our stay here.

Room Tip: Forest view is best I think, as they are away from the main road.

“Overpriced, old and in desperate need of TLC”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We went as a family (2 parents, 2 grandparents and a 1 year old and 3 year old). On arrival we found out the children were not allowed to play on the grass at the front (for privacy of other guests) and that they could use another area that was poorly maintained and held no interest to the kids (i.e. no swing set, slides etc). We book the larger cabin with 2 bedrooms as we needed the space. It felt musty inside. It was clean but there had been no updates for what seemed forever. There was no dishwasher...if I'm staying at a spa I don't want to wash dishes! We complained about the $300 a night price and were informed that the price has not changed since the place opened...my argument is NOTHING has changed since it opened and the price should respect the amenities and quality. The counter argument was that this is what you pay in Salt Spring...well, good luck Salt Spring in these tough economic times if you have that attitude.

“Clean, rustic cabin retreat in a secluded, quiet location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

This was our first visit to salt Spring Island, and we hope to return many more times. Enjoyed our short stay in a forest view chalet, it was very clean and cozy. The bed and bedding were very comfortable, and we slept well after a soak in the hot spring fed jacuzzi tub - just the thing to cure jet-lag!

We enjoyed hiking in the forest, and on the beaches, stopping often to pick wild blackberries. The kitchen was well equipped, making it easy to enjoy the many local island goodies that we bought as we toured Salt Spring Island.

We did not partake of spa services during our stay at Salt Springs Spa Resort, so cannot comment on that. However, we thought that the front desk check-in clerk was friendly and helpful.

Looking forward to returning here for a longer stay next summer.

“Relaxing Island Escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

We visited Saltspring Spa Resort over Labor Day weekend, the weather, island and resort were excellent. The individual cabin units at the resort were very comfortable and well equiped wit a full kitchen area. The water viiew cabins all face the lanes between Saltspring and Galiano Islands in the Canadian Southern Gulf Islands. You have a view from anywhere in over 2/3's of the cabin unit and the sun deck.
My wife and I enjoyed the whirlepool baths inthe units and the excellent Spa Services offered by the resort. The resort is located on the east side and is at a very peaceful and private location on the island. In addition to the spa services the resort provides row boats, crab pots and bikes for the guests. Yon can sink a crab pot in the early morning and have fresh crab for dinner that night. If your not in the mood for crabbing, the island offers several great eating experiences. We tried, and would recommend, Hasting House and House Piccolo - great food and great service.
If you go to the Island on the weekend during the summer season be sure to take in the "Artist / Farmer's Market" great local artist show their stuff and the food and farm goods offered are fantastic.
There are several large parks on the island and several fresh water lakes if you want to take a swim and not freexe to death in Puget Sound. The hiking and nature options are great and not to hard, so they are great for almost all travelers. The two must see parks are Ruckle Provincial Park (Beaver Point) and Mt. Maxwell Provincial Park. The vie from Mt Maxwell is breathtaking.
All in all, the Saltspring Island excursion was fantastic, highly recommended for couples looking for a romantic escape and for families with high energy with an earge for mountain and water activities.

Room Tip: Select one of the water view cabins, well worth the price, any of them would be good but the center...
