“Nightmare/Don't do it”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Well we should have known better when check in was a nightmare. Chose the hotel as we were there for a child's swim meet. Room requested was dirty, floors not vacuumed and the tub did not drain. The baseboard heaters were not covered and rusted coils could be seen plainly. Not a room for children. Good thing mine was 9. Neither phone in the room worked nor did the TV remote which was okay because upon turning on the TV it buzzed too hard to bother watching. Power went out the morning of our second stay for 5 hours. Maintenance man said fridge items would be okay as long as we didn't open the fridge. Could not use our room as the smoke alarms on the floor were too loud as a result of the power going out. Some guests were however offered ear plugs. The maintenance guy couldn't deal with all detectors as "I'm responsible for 17 floors" kept him busy. When asked if we would be receiving a credit on our bill..at this point I would've settled for a cup of coffee prior to walking my 7 flights to my room. I was told "The general manager lives in Vancouver and he considers this an act of God" so no we won't be doing anything. The final straw however was when the road back to Terrace was closed and the hotel offered us to stay in the room til 4 pm but neglected to update our pass keys locking us out of our room. This hotel is probably one of the worst I have ever been too from start to finish. Would never recommend it in fact I will be going out of my way to let others know of this horrific experience.

Room Tip: Nothing will help you get what you would like. If you are in a wheelchair you may wish another hote...

“Highliner Hotel”

This hotel does not serve dinner as advertised. In addition, they do not have room service as advertised, which made no difference in my case, as the phone in my room did not work. One of the elevators was broken down, and the second one took 10 minutes to arrive.

The heater in the room turned on every half hour or so making a loud sound, keeping me awake all night. When I asked the front desk if they could keep my suitcase when I checked out in the morning, so that I could pick it up at noon, one employee suggested I leave it in the corner of the lobby. Another employee must have seen my face, and did offer to lock it up.

“Clean and has basic amenities”

The highliner plaza has seen better days. It has a very tired and aged look to it. Having said that it was clean and had everything you would need for a few days stay. It was quiet enough. I can't comment on the restaurant as we walked elsewhere and it is in a good location to be able to access most places on foot or for a small cab fare. The biggest plus is the amazing views over the water. Thought the price was a bit much for what you got but there are not a lot of other choices around.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the upper levels facing the water to make the most of the views.

“If you have to stay in Prince Rupert, just stay here”

I gave this hotel an average for a few reasons. First of all, unfortunately in Prince Rupert, you aren't going to get much better. It feels moderately safe and clean. Last time I stayed there, the drunks on the street kept me up for a long time but I was a little too freaked out to tell them to shut up. Plus, the door to my balcony didn't lock. That's unsettling. But you do get nice views of the water and the scenery around PR which is very beautiful. Don't expect to be wowed, but this an ok place to stay.

“Nothing special!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

Not much going for it, but ok for a night's stay if you are catching the early BC ferry and need somewhere to put you head. We did two nights. Breakfast portions were a good size but not included in rate. Staff in restaurant helpful and friendly (only area that seemed to be!). Only one filter coffee per day provided in the room even though there was two of us. Bottom of iron was dirty and we had to clean before use. When we asked if they could help us with travel information the staff looked a bit surprised and no information was forth coming. WIFI wasn't working on the first night and reception staff member didn't seem to want to do anything about it.
