“Comfortable hotel, great view.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

This is a fairly unexceptional hotel in Prince Rupert, easy access by car to the ferry terminal and a 20 minute walk in to town.

The rooms are large and well equipped if a little dated, make sure you get a top floor room with a view of the harbour. The reception staff are helpful and the on site restaurant does a good breakfast. For dinner I would recommend the slightly more upmarket Crest Hotel.

“disappointing hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2011

We stayed here on arrival from the ferry from Port Hardy for two nights. the hotel is very convenient to locate. However the receptionist was not very friendly. The rooms wree rather old fashioned and not cleaned very well - my daughter was on the third floor in a very gloomy room, we were on the fourth floor at the front with great views - the view made up for an otherwise disappointing stay. It was also the most expensive hotel we stayed in during our travels and the most unattractive.

“Clean, if not a bit above average.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 February 2011

Been here a few times, and its probably the best bang for buck in prince rupert. You can pay the extra cost to staying at the casino, but considering how close everything is in this city, this place was a nice middle ground. Everything seems a bit old/dated, but it was clean, beds were fresh, and people were really helpful.

You arent going to stay here for the hotel thats for sure, but if you are planning to do mostly site seeing or just a night stay, this place is perfect.

“If you need a room, it's OK”

I stayed here for two nights in late July at the end of a week-long trip up Vancouver Island, capped by the incredibly gorgeous ferry ride from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert. To cut to the chase: My room was big, clean, and everything worked. Check-in was smooth (even after midnight, since the ferry's arrival time that particular night was 11:30), and the on-site restaurant served a good breakfast both mornings. It's right downtown, so I did feel safe and secure. While my room or the restaurant didn't smell of smoke, the rest of the hotel did. And everything is definitely dated, from the furniture to the fixtures. Bottom line: I slept here, took a shower, and got cleaned up both mornings. As a single guy who doesn't hang around his room when out of town (I spent my one full day in Prince Rupert out sightseeing all day), it worked fine. Whether I'd stay here again is open for debate. If I had a significant other and/or a family, I'd likely look elsewhere.

“Basic Hotel - okay for a stopover”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2010

The Moby Dick Inn is a very average hotel. The front entrance has a lot of steps which isn’t great for a hotel as most people will be arriving with a suitcase. The room itself was dated. There was no air conditioning, no kettle/tea/coffee etc. I was only in the hotel for around 9 hours in between the “Skeena” train arriving and the “Inside Passage” ferry departing for Port Hardy so really just needed a bed and a shower. In this respect it is adequate. Staff were helpful and friendly. I got the impression that the hotel is mostly used by fishermen, hence the freezers on each floor for storing their catch so they were probably out all day and weren’t too fussy where they slept. It is okay for somewhere to sleep but nothing to particularly make me want to stay there again.
