“Good Service, but too many creepy crawlies...especially the mice.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2010

I was staying in the hotel until i found myself a place to live after a fire. The lobby was alright, pretty basic, i checked into one room and came alll the way to the end of the bottom floor of the hotel just to find out that the key didnt work. So back i went, and got the response "oh, yeah, i forgot that room doesn't lock!" Really? You should get that fixed.... come on.
So they switched me over like nothing and i went alll the way to the end of the hall again for my new room.
Rooms are nice, they have an interesting layout, flatscreens, good beds, all that fun stuff. The moment i got into bed though, a little brown spider crawled across my pillow, then another about five minutes later. Not a huge problem i figured, and moved on.
Seeing as how i had nothing, i ended up using the hotel shampoo and soap (which has a really odd smell) sunflowers and grapefruit should stay as they are, not mixed *blech* and came back to shower the next day to realize the cleaning ladies hadn't restocked me with anything, no new soap, no shampoo, nothing.
A couple mornings later i woke up to a not so welcome mouse scurrying though my backpack!!! It was something ridiculous like six in the morning and I heard a crackeling in my bag so i quickly reached over and pulled it off the nightstand and turned on the light. it ran away somewhere under my bed and I called front desk immediately. It couldnt be dealt with right away as the manager wasnt there, but the lady at the desk was really sweet about it, made sure i was ok and not freaking out too too bad. And she called me sweetie which is always a nice thing to hear in the morning, so Kudos to whoever hired her.

Then another spider.
Its cheap, yes ,but like in most cases, you get what you pay for, and apparently i spent 90 a night for a mouse and spiders, and slow internet.

“Nice hotel for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2010

Make sure you ask for a room on the second floor ( this floor is the same as the lobby level) and ask for a room facing the harbour. These will have the best views in the distance as you over-look some scruffy properties directly below. The smells from the kitchen can be a bit overpowering as it is more to the middle of the hotel on the lobby floor and the rear kitchen door vents into the hallway. Getting in and out of the parking lot can be tricky and park at the front as the rest of the lot is always on a huge slant either up, down, or sideways. The pool area is decent, but you need your own key from the front desk.

“Most comfortable bed I've ever had”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2010

This hotel was clean and comfortable enough, but the bed was AMAZING! So comfortable, and had four big fluffy pillows. Was so nice to sink into after a 17 HOUR trip! Room was non-smoking but smelled like it had been smoked in, other than that it was satisfactory. One of the cheapest pet friendly hotels in Nanaimo, and I would probably stay there again. Was not there long enough to check out any amenities.

“there were rats, rats, big as bloomin' cats”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2009

On entering the lobby I was greeted with a funny smell that I assumed was mold. When I went to get a drink from the vending machine beside the pool a large grey rat scampered from behind the machine into a hole in the wall near the plug in. Renos were under way on the hallway lights but I seriously doubt the wiring repairs are going to be sustainable unless the rats are dealt with. I asked to speak with the manager the next morning and was told, "Thank you for telling me."
There was no demonstration of concern and no apology from the manager.
Since mold and rats are a health hazard (occupational health nursing background) I was concerned that this be addressed and contacted Days Inn headquarters. I was informed it was up to the individual hotel to deal with the issue....a serious red flag for quality control in a major hotel chain!

Thank for taking the time to review our property. I would appreciate additional information as it appears from your comments that your stay was in the summer of 2008.
The hotel takes a proactive approach to such issues and has an ongoing service contract with a PCO company.
I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you further - I can be reached at 1-877-754-8171.
