If you are planning to bike or hike the Kettle Valley Railway, then the Myra Canyon Ranch is a good choice for accommodation. Located just past the Kelowna city limits (on the east side of Okanagan Lake) , it offers easy access to the Myra section of the KVR trail. Due to the ranch's elevation, the temperature is about 4 degrees cooler than in Kelowna, and this can be a blessing on those scorching Okanagan summer days.
(If you are interested in a nice easy several hour walk, then park at the KVR access second parking lot. You can take in the first three trestles (including Ruth Station). The grade is flat and suitable for children. The views are excellent! If you want to go further for more trestles and the tunnels, then rent (or bring) a mountain bike. Don't forget water.)
We stayed in the Log Home Suite, which offered two bedrooms (confortable beds), kitchen, and living room. A second bathroom would have been nice, but other than that the suite had everything you needed. It was very clean - immaculate. Heating, which we needed in the evening, was electric and efficient. No television, but a nice selection of dvds were available.
Accommodation in the suite does not include breakfast (although you can pay additional to receive it). We saw little of our hosts and cannot attest to their hospitality, and this was probably because a self contained unit did not offer much chance for mingling.
The ranch has a nice communal deck/patio arrangement which allows you to select sun, shade, and views. A great place to relax with that bottle of Okanagan wine. It is pet friendly with a cat, dogs, and of course horses.
I would recommend this property as a great alternative to the usual hotel/motel selection that Kelowna offers.
