“Perfect, cozy, on-hill and affordable!”

Just returned from a 5 day stay at the Fireside Lodge at Sun Peaks. We wanted a true ski in/ski out with hot-tub access, in-suite fireplace and full kitchen. Couldn't have asked for more, this place was perfect and priced right. We booked through Owner Direct and/or Sun Peaks Accomodations both of which allow you to view a variety of accomodation types and prices when searching around. I have used Owner Direct for other ski vacation bookings and so far so good.
Our unit at the Fireside Lodge was #301. It faces Mount Morrissey which means a great view of mountains, ski runs and forest but without facing the village corrider which while cute, could be noisy. The unit replicates what you can expect to find in other units in the building except of course for size. We had a 1 bedroom which comes with a balcony, full kitchen, dining area, full bathroom, fireplace, etc. Shared laundry on the same floor, free parking on-site (undesignated though) and we managed to get underground heated parking which was great. The building has an elevator and valet carts so getting all your gear up and down is not a problem. I'm a packrat who brings everything and my hubby didn't even complain it was so easy!
The focus of our trip wasan economical ski trip so we ate in most of the time. Kitchen came with dishes/pots and pans (I brought my favorite knife and was glad i did so!). We brought own booze as well which turned out to be a good idea. The local liquor store sells alot of high end BC wines which are all terrific but not neccessrily what I would always drink. Bring your own food as the only food store is limited in product and is expensive.
Shared hot tub in lodge was very nice. We went skating one night, fun. Tried out the sports centre's outdoor swimming pool (2 minute walk from the Fireside) well worth it.
Our one dining experience was the 'Steakhouse Restaurant' . Great meal and service. Dinner for two with 1 appy, 2 main course, wine for two and a dessert to share with 20% tip came under $125.00.
We will return maybe even this season!

“Not great”

We unfortunately visited this area over the busy New Year period and the hotel was seriously understaffed. We were actually shown into a room that was in pieces and then had to wait over 2 hours for another room. This was late afternoon/evening, we had been travelling all day and had to cook dinner that night. We were there for 5 nights and then had to change rooms halfway through our stay which was very disruptive. The rooms themselves were fine but the rest of the complex was very ordinary.
We had just come from Big White and as far as accommodation and friendliness, Sun Peaks just didn't stack up. Fortunately the skiing is great.
Maybe Sun Peaks needs to look at hiring staff from other countries as Big White does. (There were no staff shortages there).

“Fireside Lodge Great Value”

Spent 8 nights at the Fireside Lodge in Sun Peaks Village with my husband and 12 year old son. We had a 1 bedroom condo which had a comfortable sofa bed for our son to sleep on. One of the many advantages of having only one child - you don't need a two bedroom condo! Overall Fireside Lodge is a great property, very clean, comfortable and the decor was modern and fresh. There's a laundry room on each floor and a small market , liquor store and cafe in the lobby. Fireside is centrally located in the Village, just put on your skis of a morning and then ski through the pedestrian mall down to the chairlift. It's also possible to ski back via another trail in the afternoon so that you end up at the front door again! We liked Sun Peaks however, we expected the Village to be a little bigger with more restaurant and shopping options - its a similar size to Silver Star and Big White. I would suggest avoiding the Xmas week as it was very crowded!

“Fireside/Hearthstone”

Spent two weeks at Fireside Lodge, arrived via rented car from Vancouver. Rented car off-airport at Airport Hilton (Richmond, BC), despite name of hotel it is off-airport, reach with free shuttle.
Beautiful drive to Kamloops, then 45 minutes to Sun Peaks.
Accomodations just great, cafes/restaurants superb, shops above average. Scenery spectacular, golf course: final 9 still under construction. Staff very accomodating, parking inside. Sister lodge is the Hearthstone, almost next door. Returning in March 2004, that's the best recommendation. A real family spot in the mountains.
