I booked this stay through Hotwire and thought I was getting a decent deal on a 2 star hotel. Well, there are no stars for this dump! Our room was on the second floor of a building that is slanted and sliding down the cliff. Not only did our room smell bad and had terribly stained carpets and chairs, but the floor was slanted at such an angle that the TV would not stay put in the entertainment centre and the water would not go down the drain in the bathtub. The air conditioner was so loud we had to sleep with ear plugs. It was a frightful experience!

We originally booked thru Hotwire and were supposed to stay at the Howard Johnston downtown. It was 42 deg Celsius day when we arrived in Kamloops, we drove straight to the HOJO downtown and was told that all the rooms were booked and they would get us a room at another HOJO which was up the hill. We thought it was a blessing in disguise because this hotel was not to nice from the outside. We then arrived at the HOJO on the hill we proceeded to check in. While we were checking in there was an argument between front desk clerk and a temp staff cleaning person looking for her paycheck.
We walked up to the second level and seen our room for the night. Wow what a disaster.
We open the door to find an aroma of twenty year old ashtray. The carpet was covered in food stains the chairs were also stained. Now the bed it had mouse traps tucked under the headboard the blanket had holes from wear and the pillows were at least ten years old.
My pillow had a big yellow stain, and the room was just in total disrepair the cleaning staff were clearly not doing there jobs and the management have not put one cent into the rooms. I called the front and asked for a different room but of course they didn’t have any, but the desk clerk was nice enough to bring a new pillow. They were some young people that had a motor home pulled up to the pool and were jumping from the roof of the motor home into the pool. We spent the night sleeping in our cloths wow what a great end to a sweet holiday. On a side note we stayed at a HOJO in Victoria and it was great.
So it’s not HOJO it’s the greedy management that is trying to gouge every cent out of there hotel. So remember DO NOT STAY AT A HOWARD JOHNSTON IN KAMLOOPS. Hotwire was kind enough to refund our money.

We were extremely disappointed not only in the rooms but the manager was extremely rude when we had some complaints about the room we were given.

We had made reservations with a group (15 rooms) and upon our arrival found we had been given a room with only 1 window that looked out at a roof overhang. This made the room extremely dark and dingy so I went back downstairs to ask that they move us to a different room. The young lady who was on the front desk told me that there were no other rooms available and "everyone else has already checked in...". As we were the first of our group to arrive, I knew this to be completely untrue and it seemed to me that she just didn't want to do anything at all - too much work perhaps??? She seemed entirely un-moved by the fact that I told her this was our 1st time staying with them and it could very likely be the last...
With 2 kids who had been in the car already for a few hours, we decided to try to make the best of what was starting out on the wrong foot. Upon closer inspection the room was also a disappointment and had obviously only had a "surface" cleaning. There was a burnt out light in the bathroom, the cover for the bathroom fan was actually hanging by the wires and the dust on the air conditioner vents was unbelieveable!! My husband used one of the washclothes in the bathroom to try to clean some of the dust off the vents. He took this downstairs to ask for a clean one (along with another one that we found frozen inside the freezer section of the small fridge) and the manager who brought the clean ones up was rude as soon as I opened the door to let him in. This continued throughout our 3 night stay as everytime I saw him around he would just glare at me and not say anything!!! I can't believe that anyone would want to stay at this hotel and believe me if we could have got a room at the Hospitality Inn right next door we would have left !!!
I would never stay here again and this was the same consensus of our entire group.

Don't waste your money at this "dump" - Go anywhere else!

stayed here for one night on a trip around British Columbia and can't really say I had any major complaints. It was one of the cheapest options in Kamloops and for our CAD$ 85 we got a big clean room with two beds, and a reasonable bathroom with a good shower. Didn't have any security issues at all, and the staff were friendly enough. No real complaints but obviously don't stay here if you're expecting the lap of luxury!
