“Nothing flash and unbelievably noisy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

We were placed at the Thompson Hotel for one night while on a Rockies Mountaineer Goldleaf train tour. The hotel was quite drab and ordinary but we were only there to sleep before returning to the train in early morning.

Our room had two double beds which took up most of the space but as I've already said we were only there to sleep. Unfortunately that became a problem because of the constant noise. We could hear various forms of activity in the big yard at the back of the hotel outside our window. There was also noise of air conditioning units from outside.

But the worst noise of all came from air conditioning units which seemed to be situated above the ceiling, and they must have also impacted on other rooms at the same and of the corridor as our room. The air conditioning noise from within the corridor was terrible, but when the door was closed it was reduced to loud and a constant hum that continued all night. We were happy to return to the train in the early morning, tired, but glad not to be staying another night in such a noisy room.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from all air conditioning noise.

“Spacious”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

We wanted spacious bedrooms, and quiet. We got 3 queens, 2 in one room, one in the other, perfect layout for what we wanted. The railway noise wasn't too bad. We used our chits to buy breakfast at the cafe downstairs - excellent.

“Great Downtown Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

Just completed a 3 night stay at this hotel. Very convenient location if you need to be downtown. Also, one of the bus transfer locations is right next to the hotel if you don't have a car. Room itself was very nice, spacious and clean. Bed was very comfy and the room was quiet, even though the hotel was full most nights. Watch out for the check in times for the bus and train tours as the lobby was packed one night when I was going for dinner. I had been given a head's up about it so came in a little earlier in the afternoon to do the actual check-in. They were also very good about storing my bag for the day. My flight arrived at 9am and caught a cab straight to the hotel before going to work. Breakfast was fairly standard with the addition of made to order pancakes on the mornings that the train group was not there. Overall, a great stay.

“Adequate”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

We were placed here as part of our tour with the Rocky Mountaineer train. We were only here for one evening. This hotel was very clean but seemed dated. The towels were small and harsh. We were only given one coffee mug and one coffee packet in our room, but when I went to the front desk they were accommodating and provided me with an additional coffee packet and mug.

The TV was the old fat kind. The internet was wireless only and not particularly speedy. The room was small. The carpet was thin. It's cleanliness and the friendly staff were its strongest points.

“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011

Called into the Visitors Centre at Kamloops and this was one of the Hotels available.

It was easy to find with free parking under the hotel. The Reception Staff were very profession and quickly sorted my check in/out. The place had been recently refurbished which was apparent. The air con was very welcome and certainly makes a difference.

The bedroom was spacious and clean as was the bathroom. Spent a very quiet peaceful night here and it transpired to be a good choice. I would be mindful of checkout time and deconflict where possible from those on the Rocky Mountaineer Train trip checking out en masse!

The attached bars are really good with good choices of food and beers. Would go back to this place if I was in the area again.
