“Okay, but overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2007

The front desk is friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast included fruit and yogart in addition to breads and pasteries and cereals (no whole grains). The seating area is one of the largest I've ever seen. The pool is the landing pad for the waterslide. The room had two queen beds (thin sheets), TV, desk, small fridge, microwave, and coffee maker (didn't see the bathrobe they advertised). While the hotel appears to be new, it's not very soundproof, the airconditioner was noisy, not steady white noise, just annoying noise; lino in the bathroom, and our toilet seat was beat up looking. My previous stay was at the Holiday Inn 67th Street; it is luxury compared to the Service Plus. The hotel was okay, but I would shop around when I'm paying $109 a night as there are newer hotel choices in this area of Red Deer.

“Horrible Experience! Hockey Teams NOT WELCOME!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2007

If you are a hockey team - DO NOT even consider staying here! We were all treated horribly and it is obvious the staff and management DO NOT want sports teams staying here. Our children who are ages 10/11 were treated like criminals for walking up and down the halls. Our children and adults were yelled at, sneered at and treated extremely UNPROFESSIONALLY. We were then presented with a SPORTS TEAM policy where there are more rules and regulations than can fit on one page, plus a rude note they are not responsible for babysitting our children. As a parent group, we were always with our children, we DID NOT party and leave our kids unattended - they were simply going back and forth to each others rooms (this was at 5pm in the afternoon they were getting yelled at). If you have no choice in staying, strongly recommend you are all placed together on the first floor.
Our $4,000 obviously DID NOT mean anything to them and we will spread the word loudly that just because they have a waterslide, this hotel is not worth the grief it is to stay there. This has happened TWICE to us. This time we learned our lesson - we WILL NOT be staying there again.

  • Liked — Takes more than having a waterslide to be a good hotel.
  • Disliked — SPORTS TEAMS treated extremely poorly.

“Worst experience ever”

If you are a hockey team, don't even consider this hotel. It was very clear from the moment we walked in the door we were not welcome. The front desk staff were curt and borderline rude. The Manager made inappropriate comments about the behaviour of children he didn't even know. It was a though they were prepared for a battle.
I was not welcomed in anyway to the hotel and was not advised of discounts or other services that were available. I ate at the restaurant twice before being told of the discount.
Our hockey players are 9 & 10 year olds. They were supervised at all times in the halls and the pool. There were no issues at all. I don't understand why the attitude continued. It was extremely uncomfortable the whole weekend. Some of our parents checked out and went home on Saturday because they couldn't stand the attitude.
The rooms were clean and the pool & slide were great. Poor viewing area for the parents, only 3 chairs so we were soaked when supervising.
The continnental breakfast on Saturday was okay, but some of the muffins and bagels were stale. The Sunday breakfast was awful. The food was even more stale and the service was horrible. There were some late-comers because of the daylight savings. Some of the parents and kids came right at 10:00 a.m. when the breakfast was supposed to be over. There were at least 30 people in the dining room eating their breakfast when the staff member turned off the lights and started clearing away the food. Milk was taken while kids were pouring cereal and butter was taken away while one of the parents was standing there making toast. It was embarrasing and inexcusable. The Manager could have easily extended the breakfast for 15 minutes or the staff member could have made an annoucement to please finish up. Instead she would clear away whatever she could when there was a break in the line.
Upon check out, again the front staff were difficult. I was handed a VISA receipt to sign without being presented with a room invoice to review. When I asked to review the bill, there was an indignant sigh and the bill was basically thrown at me.
Not once during our stay was I welcomed to the hotel or had an "Enjoy your visit". Not one greeting or common courtesy was extended to me or the other parents on the team.
As far as we are concerned we should be owed an apology from the hotel. There are now 15 families that will never recommend this hotel to anyone.
The Co-Manager of the team brought up our concerns with the Management upon check-out. He barely listened to our complaints and said "Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention". Nothing more was said.

“Everything Wonderful!!”

We had a great time at the service plus.

They served a great breakfast which had everything from chocolate chip muffins to fruit. They also give you 10% of at the Mohave grill which is next door. For cheap and fast eats the Tim Hortons is next door. For you American folks Tim Hortons is a fast food outlet in Canada. It's like a coffee shop but there are also subs and soups.

Our room was great. It was very clean. When we stayed here the hotel was brand new so everything was very fresh. We were probley the first people in that room. Our friends stayed here last month and found their suite very nice but it was very cold.

The waterslide was nice and great for smaller children. The pool and area was very clean and bright.

Staff were great and so friendly. When we left they gave the kids a shampoo and a soap to remember it.

Service=10/10
Rooms=10/10
Breakfast=10/10
Pool/Waterslide=8/10

Overall= 10/10

Highly Recomeded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Being a ex-Whistler hotel industry employee, I must say that my expectations of front desk employees and housekeeping are critical. I have found the staff of this hotel to be above and beyond what i expected. Quick, friendly check-in and well organized front desk able to answer all my questions and needs....very thoughtful housekeeping staff made my week at this hotel feel like I was living back home. Very much appreciated. Would recommend this hotel in an instant.
