“Absolutely terrible”

The only good thing about this hotel was the make-your-own waffles. The grout in the bathroom was falling out and black. The bedspread was ripped. Our room was tiny, barely enough room for the pack n play for our infant. We were meeting up with family, but our room was on the opposite side of the hotel from them.
On the second night of our stay a soccer team stayed there. The kids were great. The parents weren't. The parents were up drinking and smoking in a big group outside until very late. Quiet time was supposed to be 10pm, but at 11:30 they were still going strong. We complained numerous times to management but they only asked the people to be quiet, not to disperse. They should have been thrown out, especially after the rude and threating language they were using towards the guests that complained. Management was extremely unhelpful and kept saying that they would talk to them and ask them to be quiet. Absolutely useless. Management was very rude in dealing with our complaints.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. They should lose their Choice hotel franchise.

“Never, ever again”

There were 16-20 adults drinking and smoking just outside our door until after 2:30 a.m. and the hotel staff were totally useless. I went to ask what the staff were going to do and met another guest who said he was now there the second time to complain. We were told since this was the second complaint we would get 10% off our bill. We asked what about the noise and the staff said she was not prepared to do anything. She was not gong to evict or call the police or anything. Later I saw another staff in the office and he said he was the assistant manager -and he did nothing. A lady asked if her car was going to be okay as she was parked right by the partiers and she was informed she could move her car to another hotel parking lot. In the morning as we were packing up, we talked with some seniors who had rooms in the area and they were not able to get to sleep until after 3:00 a.m. Also there were beer bottles and cigarette butts right in front of our door as the partiers knew we had been to the office to complain. A very sad night and totally useless and inept staff at the econo lodge.

“Good Value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2007

The room was clean and everything was in good working order. It was not a high class place but it was comfortable. The continental breakfast was excellent. It had everything we expected, and the price was reasonable.

“poor customer service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2007

The worst customer service I have ever received in a motel. My husband & I stayed here during the Christmas holidays. We did realize when we booked, that the motel staff had Christmas off, so we would be on our own for a day & a half. We didn't realize that a continental breakfast was usually included in the price we paid, until we checked in at the desk. They wouldn't give us any kind of discount, okay fine, I could live with that. The problem was, they didn't leave us any extra toilet paper in our room and we ran out the first evening we were there. We had to go out and buy our own. When the staff returned the next day I mentioned this to the front desk agent. She wouldn't even apologize for the mistake or discuss the situation with me, just wanted me to pay and leave. Otherwise, the room we had was clean and quiet.

“Do they rent by the hour?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2006

This property regularly offers low rates on a number of consolidator websites like expedia, but don't be fooled by the good prices into thinking that you're getting a bargain; this Econo Lodge probably has the grossest, smelliest hotel rooms in Alberta.

Rooms are dark and dirty, and my "non-smoking" room reeked of cigarette smoke and stale ashes. Maybe I was given the same room as the previous poster. In any case, it also smelled mouldy and grungy, and the ratty drapes and dingy carpet smelled like they could have used a good shot of febreeze.

Linen service appeared to be sporadic, and I slept on top of the cover.

The check-in clerk was surly and indifferent; I'd be that he was just tired of fielding complaints from angry patrons.

I'm sure I would have had a better night's sleep on a park bench. For masochists and/or the desperate only.

  • Liked — nothing!
  • Disliked — appearance; cleanliness
  • Tips/Secrets — spend the extra buck and get a room that doesn't smell like a mouldy old ashtray!
