We stayed at the Super 8 Lethbridge while visiting family… and it definitely wasn’t anything special.
We had made our reservations (2 separate ones since we were travelling to Waterton in the middle of our trip and were going to be spending the night out there) through the 1-800 number about 2 weeks before our trip. We also called the hotel directly to double-check our reservations a couple of days prior to arriving… just to make sure they were booked correctly. However, when I called the hotel directly the day we were travelling to let them know that we were going to be checking in late, the hotel didn’t have our correct reservations!
We had reserved a non-smoking pet room with 2 queen beds (since we were travelling with out dog, and our toddler). However when I called to let them know that we were checking in late, I was advised that we hadn’t booked a pet room! As it turned out it was the manager that I was talking to, and she agreed to waive the pet fee, and that the entire hotel had to offer in regards to the pet room, was a room with 2 double beds. Definitely not the Queens that we were looking forward to.
The front desk staff was definitely very friendly and helpful, and the hotel and rooms were clean… however everything stunk very heavily of deodorizer… not cleaner! So I’m still not sure on how “clean” everything actually was. Not to mention that people are smoking everywhere on the property, even outside non-smoking rooms so you can’t even have the window open without a waft of smoke coming inside!
The 2 rooms we stayed in were in the 2 separate buildings at the back of the hotel property. One was on the main floor of the back building closest to the Howard Johnson hotel next door, and the other one was on the upper floor of the building located closest to Treats Eatery restaurant next door.
Both rooms where definitely very rough looking and stunk very heavily of deodorizer! The room closest to the Howard Johnson was a regular room with 2 double beds and had a microwave, and a small bar fridge. On top of the horrible deodorizer stench it had wallpaper peeling away from walls, stains on the wall and carpet, old burn marks in the bedding (just the comforter and the bed spread), old electric baseboard heaters that weren’t working and had pieces hanging from them that would catch and scratch your legs and feet as you walked by them, uneven dips in the floor, cracked and unstuck floor tiles in the bathroom, a toilet that was uneven and tried to throw you off while you sat on it and an ac unit that only worked as a fan!
The room closest to Treats Restaurant was just as “pretty”! It also had 2 double beds, but had a small kitchenette with a 2 burner stove top and a small kitchen sink. It also had a microwave and a small bar fridge. The funny thing with this room, is that when I was booking a room through the 1-800 number… I was told that the hotel didn’t have any kitchenette rooms! Hmm…. Funny! This room also had a horrible deodorizer smell and had torn and peeling wall paper and stains on the wall, a wonderful white pain line around the whole ceiling perimeter, old burn marks on the comforter and the bed spread, and had cracked and unstuck tiles in the bathroom. The worst part of this room (and I would consider it a huge safety problem as well!) is that it also had an old electric baseboard heater running the full length of one wall, and had the 2 double beds pushed right up against them so that the heads of the bed didn’t actually rest up against the walls and there was a huge gap between the bed and wall which meant that pillows (and toys from our little girl) where falling on top of it the whole time! How is that safe??? And not a fire hazard???
The only saving graces for this hotel were the pool, the waffles for breakfast, and the newer double beds in both rooms!
This is definitely not the hotel for you if you have small children that you are worried about playing on the carpet, have allergies to strong deodorizers, and want a nicely decorated room even though you have a pet!
