“Average; would pick another hotel next time due to price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

We opted to stay at the Travelodge as my mother was seeking a hotel with a "chain name". We first visited the Holiday Inn and were advised rooms were $140 per night. We thought that maybe the Sandman or Travelodge might be a bit cheaper.

The front desk girl advised us that rooms were $89 and $99 a night, yet when she gave us our room keys she advised us that our bill was $130 and $140 per room. This was confusing to us yet we proceeded in hopes this hotel was going to be similar to the Holiday Inn.

Our rooms were older yet clean. The shower head fell off in one of the rooms yet we managed to fix it. When we reported it to management they seemed concerned and likely that room was checked after our stay.

There are minor details that need attention. Rough looking wallpaper, blackened celings near vents (from dust or smoke) and water stains on ceiling from a long time ago. If the hotel rooms were $89 and $99 then I would have accepted the room's appearance. Just felt that it was a bit pricey when a newer, more modern hotel appeared to have charged the same rate.

My mother said that the food in the restaurant was good and the prices were reasonable. They had ordered the steak special.

Room Tip: Ask the front desk what their prices are after taxes and misc fees before booking.

Hello,

Thank you for your candid review of the Travelodge Lethbridge.
I am sorry you experienced confusion while checking in at our hotel.
The regular rate for the room IS $89/night and $99/night for a single and double.
The reason you were advised upon checkin that your bill was $130 and $140 is because we require our guest services agents to put a pre-authorization (a hold) on the guest credit card to ensure we not only have enough monies to cover the cost of the room, but also any potential incidentals which guests typically incur (ie: long distance, damages). This hold is then completed upon checkout for the amount owing by the guest, which in your case was $89 or $99/night plus tax.

I am sorry that this process was not properly explained to you upon checkin as I have instructed all staff to inform our guests about our pre-authorization policy.

We do recognize the minor problems that you have mentioned in your review and your comments are very valuable in helping us further improve our property to give our guests the best value for their money.

Thank you also for your comments about our lounge and our steak sandwich special. I will pass your comments along to our kitchen and restaurant staff.

Sincerely,

Brian Um - General Manager Travelodge Lethbridge

“a good price, but some attention needs to go to details”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2011

My girlfriend and I stayed there on July 1 and 2, 2011. The room was clean. No issues that way at all. The staff was pleasant. A couple of issues do need attention though - the ceiling in our room, had suffered some water damage or repairs, but had been spot painted all over, a heck of a mess. No huge deal, these things happen. The continental breakfast however, well, there was some issues there. When we checked in, we were told it ran ran from 6:30 to 10. Yes, 10. I am very sure, as I have had issues in the past on this matter. I took very good care to note the time. When we attended at 9:20, there was almost nothing left, no eggs (though referred to on the materials and by the host) all the juice was gone, milk was all gone, it was like it had been stipped by wild animals. Tehre was a few muffins, and there was still some mix to make waffles. The toaster was a four slice toaster, with a sign that advised it could only make 2 at a time.
I complained. I was gentle about it, but darn it, I was looked forward to soft boiled eggs. I was told that breakfast ended at 9:30. I went to the desk, they said the same thing. Okay, I'll be there much earlier next time. Did I mention that I really really make note of the times of these things? I was very clear that the check in fellow said 10.
The next day, at 8:30, we are there. Again, it looks like wild animals have been through. by 8:45 there is no more batter for the waffles. Guests are told "sorry, that is all". There is eggs! They are hard boiled as promised, and very good eggs! Thank you! BUT, no milk except some kind of diet milk, all the juice is gone, the toaster is still the two slice kind. The guests in the room were making jokes all over about the breakfast, sort of a hardship that resulted in a bonding experience. One group had been there for 4 breakfasts, and said it was always like that.
The hotel was a reasonably price, and I was glad to have it. I was left pleased with the experience with the staff, but really disappointed with the breakfast experience. That continental breakfast was a significant selling point to me, and instead I had the impression that it was set up like a cattle call - put everything out at 6:30, and that's it, and if it runs out on a busy time, well, tough luck. A frustrating experience.
I would go back again, but as I checked in I would be asking about breakfast, when, where, what it there at what time. Shouldn't have to do that really - not asking for bacon and fried eggs, just some toast that can be toasted, hard boiled eggs, milk and a bit of juice.

I am glad to hear that our staff was pleasant and that our rooms were clean for you.
I will have our maintenance guy look at the ceilings in the rooms more carefully.
I will also be speaking to my staff about restocking the breakfast as needed.
This should be done on a regular basis and they will be told it must be done.
I am sorry to hear your stay here did not meet your expectations.
We will try harder to do better the next time you visit Lethbridge.

“Very disappointed having read positive reviews”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2011

Having researched hotels in Lethbridge (we are on a limited budget), chose this one & reserved 1 month in advance because of positive reviews and 20% off deal (stayed 2 nights). Requested room off main highway for quiet. Given a dark room where window faced concrete stairwell 3 feet out. Requested a room with light; given a 2nd floor room - no view. (Rm. 228) When we opened window, smelled cooking exhaust coming from restaurant below. Very unpleasant. Dirty bathroom mirror & dirty coffee cup in room. Hotel not full. Astounded that we weren't offered a nicer room (view & away from exhaust). Bed was very comfortable. Very disappointed that we spent $90 / night (a special) for this!

I am sorry to hear that your we did not meet your expectations.
We are a locally owned/operated hotel and do take all reviews seriously.
I will remind the front desk that they need to call guests upon checkin and also after moving a guest to a new room to make sure everything is satisfactory.
Thank you for your feedback

“Great accommodating front desk staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2010

Was in Lethbridge to take a friend for an early morning appointment at the hospital. Front desk lady was very helpful in making sure we were up by at 6a.m. She had called a taxi , it was there by 6:15. Breakfast was very good . Room was a little dated, but clean and comfortable. Foam pillows not so comfortable. All in all a great stay.

“Amazing staff made up for small shortfalls”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2010

What was meant to be a short day drive around Calgary ended up taking my down to the U.S. border. By the time I really realized how far I'd gone, it was too late to do the drive home.

I loaded up my travel app on my phone and found this hotel for $79CDN a night. I went to the desk and asked if I had to book online via my phone or if they could offer me that price - they told me that was their rate. Awesome! the front desk staff was friendly and personable and a real pleasure to deal with.

I got a room on the third floor with a balcony. The room was surprisingly large (or perhaps that was my total lack of luggage!). In all seriousness, there was a queen sized bed, a large entertainment centre, a huge TV, a fridge, a table with two chairs, and still lots of floor room.

I found the room clean but obviously dated - not in a bad way, it was just what you expected with the pricepoint. I was concerned when the elevator door opened and there was my room right across from it, but I had no issue at all with noise.

The only real downfall was the breakfast. I went to grab what I thought was a peach (and had the texture of a peach) but upon lifting it to my face i discovered it was a very soft, old, apple. A check of the bowl told me that all of the apples were in the same shape. I did have an amazing "make it yourself" waffle though!

I would not hesitate to stay again. The clean room, the amazing price, and the friendly and helpful staff make it all worth while.
