“Dirty. Dirty. Dirty.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

The moment we walked into our "non smoking" room, the smell of cigarette hit us. While we weren't expecting much, the smell was one thing they could fix with a fresh coat of paint and a steam clean.

But the smell wasn't nearly as bad as the filthy bathroom. The cleaners obviously gave little effort. Or maybe they used a dirty rag. All I know is there were smears of fecal matter around the *outside* of the toilet bowl, as well as the underside of the sink. The were unpleasant brown stains around the bathroom doorknob, and a liberal sprinkling of p-hairs around the base of the toilet. The only reason I didn't complain was that we were dead tired and cranky from travelling and i didn't want my wife to flip out. I cleaned the "brown-ness" myself before she could notice.

What my wife *did* notice were the greasy dust bunnies growing around the base of the bed. And the nearly transparent bed linen.

We stayed one night. I regret cheaping out on this one.

“Better yet, sleep in your car.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

I can't believe there are good comments on here. We recently stayed here, tried not to use the bathrooms, slept on top of comforter....what a dump... the room was beyond description but ancient is the only word I can think of.... incredibly old.... dated...worn out....the room smelled horrible....we actually set alarm for 5 am so we could get up and leave.... Do yourself a favor and look at other Hotel chains, the larger ones...you'll be happy you did.......

“Mediocre at best”

Stayed here for two nights in June 2011. Booking online was good and the rate of $75/night was all right for summer. Staff at the hotel were good. And the location and parking are both very good. Wireless Internet was also good.

But the room was vintage 80s hotel room that smelled strongly like Febreezed smoke (it was a non-smoking room), with a very old TV and lamps, very old furniture that is well past its prime, the bathroom looked like my grandmother's from the 60's. There was still a nacho chip on the chair when I arrived, the bathroom fan sounded like a propeller plane, and the walls are mighty thin. Breakfast wasn't even worth sitting down for - toast, generic cereal, and weak coffee.

Wouldn't stay here again unless there was nothing else in town available or if they do a major reno or upgrade.

“A Very Cold Night - Call Ahead if You Have a Pet.”

Lethbridge, AB

HOTEL:
Howard Johnson Lethbridge
1026 Mayor Magrath Drive
Lethbridge, AB, Canada T1K 2P8

Mayor Magrath Drive is loaded with hotels. After checking with about 5 of them, the least expensive, pet-friendly option was the Howard Johnson’s. It was conveniently located to restaurants and the highway, and the young man behind the counter was friendly and courteous.

The room was clean, and bed bug-free. Of course, can bed bugs survive in below freezing temperatures? I ask this because it turns out that they don’t leave the heat on in designated pet rooms if they’re not expecting a guest. Well, I think you can do the math – January – Alberta – that meant that it was colder inside the room than it was outside. So, we turned the heat all the way up and went out to dinner. It’ll be warm when we get back, we thought. But it wasn’t.

Why didn’t we take a different room? We were offered one, but none of the pet rooms were up to temperature, so what difference would it have made? We could have gone to a different hotel, but having to deal with the dog and lugging all our baggage around, we just weren’t up to the challenge. And now it was snowing, and the arctic wind was blowing. Besides, how long could it possibly take for the room to come up to temperature? Let me tell you how long: 3 a.m.

The staff at the hotel couldn’t have been nicer. And other than the temperature issue, the hotel was fine. A word of advice: if you KNOW you’re going to be in Lethbridge and you need a pet-friendly room and it’s the dead of winter – call HoJos first and ask them to turn the heat on. I guarantee you’ll be a lot more comfortable.

Drive-up-to-room-type motel. Typical continental breakfast. Tidy, neat breakfast room. Room housekeeping was average. Courteous staff.
