Stayed here, only because the Holiday Inn on Mayor Magrath was already completely booked. The location is good, close to the mall, downtown, and the bars if you want to go out. Booked on a Saturday & Sunday night in a jacuzzi suite. Most of the time, we book a jacuzzi suite, and the Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express has never been a disappointment until now. First off, we checked in, and asked for a late check out - priority club, generally you are allowed a 2PM checkout. The young man that booked us in could not guarantee anything because of housekeeping, which would have been a reasonable excuse if we weren't checking out on a Monday, and there are 8 jacuzzi suites in this hotel. Needless to say, we never got a late check out. We get to the room, and it was clean, but the shower in the bathroom was a tiny corner stall... in a suite... really? Disappointing. The TV in the room was an old model, from the 90's. When you pay $170 per night, don't you think a newer TV than that would be quite standard? We wanted to rent a PPV movie, but the TV was so old, they were having problems with it, and we couldn't rent anything off it. The jacuzzi was nice, quite big, but the robes that are in the room were ratty, and obviously not updated anytime recently. The fireplace... nice touch. Quite possibly the nicest thing about this suite. The bed... clean, pillows were good, way too hard for my liking. I may as well have slept on the floor. And you could feel every ripple in the mattress under the sheets. Not impressive.
There was a few teams in the Saturday we stayed, and although I'm sure the hotel was booked, it was quite quiet especially considering the circumstances. We went out the Saturday night, and coming back to the hotel, there was a group of young drunk people around the front desk being quite loud. The lady working informed us that they were just her child's friends waiting for a taxi, which would have been fine, if there wasn't a sign outside the front door stating if you were not a guest of the hotel they would not be able to call a taxi for you. There was another group of 4 in the doorway of the lobby with one person so drunk they were laying on the floor. Not a good impression at all.
For $170/ night we may as well rented a room at one of the lower rated hotels and chanced it. We always book Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express because of the nice rooms, great service, and 2PM checkout. Needless to say, we will never stay at this one, and will not recommend it either. It used to be a nice hotel, but obviously the "little things" that make a stay are being over looked or not looked at what so ever.
Room Tip: Book at the Holiday Inn, Mayor Magrath.
