“Tucked away treasure!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We stayed for a weekend in a 2 bedroom cabin. We have been to Jasper many times over the past 25 years and never knew about this place. Our cabin was small, but had everything we needed/wanted. Loved the wood burning fireplace; firewood could be purchased at the office, but we had brought our own. The kitchenette was well supplied with all we needed including wine glasses, corkscrew, ground coffee, filters and creamer. The double beds were quite comfortable with lovely warm quilts. Everything was clean, cabin was warm and cozy and there was also lots of hot water.

We also used the hot tub, just a short walk from our cabin. There was a sauna as well, but we didn't try it. Towels were available at the hot tub.

We would definitely stay here again.

“Nice place”

The lodge was located near to the town center. We reserved two nights in a standard cabin with breakfast but when we arrived we were told breakfast wasn't available, therefore we have been given a nicer and more spacious cabin. It was a pleasent room with fireplace and kitchenette. We could see elks eating grass out of the window in the evening. Overall we have a good memory of this place. The girl at the reception was helpful and nice.

“On reflection, a lovely place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

We arrived very late (well after 8pm) and had no issue checking in and finding our cabin (rooms 27 and 28, with a connecting door) for our 3 night stay. I'm not sure I would book these separately, as only room 28 has the kitchen and dining room table (and one queen bed), while room 27 has 2 beds. Both have fireplaces and a log cabin feel. There isn't a huge amount of space, it was a little awkward to navigate around the two suitcases in each room.
The bathrooms are clean but small - no shelf to store toiletries around the sink.
Whilst we used the in room facilities for breakfast, there is an option of joining other guests for a complimentary continental breakfast in the main building, which is also where the spa is located. There is no on-site restaurant, but the Best Western next door has a lovely restaurant plus there are several options in town (I liked Smitty's for a good family restaurant).
The lodge is located at the far end of town, you can walk to the centre of Jasper but if you are looking for a short walk, chose another location.
We used it as a base to head to Maligne Lake, Angel Glacier and Athabasca Falls, plus the generally beautiful scenery around the Jasper area.
Probably the biggest plus is the staff. We were having a few challenges during our trip and the staff at Bear Hill Lodge went the extra mile to try and help us out, even after we had checked out.
Whilst at the time we were staying there, we weren't overly 'wowed' by Bear Hill Lodge, as we were driving away, we all agreed that this was a lovely place to stay and something a little different to the hotels we'd normally stay at.

“Great place!”

We just stayed here overnight. The cabin was small with a gas fireplace, but it was warm & cozy. It was very clean, and had a good breakfast the next morning. Only a block from downtown. This was the highest rate we paid for lodging on a month-long trip, but where else can you go and be awakened at 2:00 a.m. by a cow elk eating out of the hanging flower basket next to your door? Or a bull elk bugling as he walks right past your cabin to downtown, Jasper? Location...location...location!

“Unbelievable value!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

We stayed here for our first anniversary and were pleasantly surprised. We stayed in the cabin with queen sized bed and fireplace, bathroom and kitchenette.

The cabin was cozy and warm and absolutely wonderful! The fire was delightful and having the kitchenette was great for storing snacks and breakfast. We were steps away from the hot tub, which was great for a quick warm up dip.

What we liked was the price! I had searched all around Jasper for a nice place to stay for our holiday and this was a steal of a deal!

Our only complaint was that the mattress left a little to be desired. It didn't offer much in support. We were also surprised that there was no coffee for the coffee maker in the room, so if you are planning a vacation here, make sure to bring some coffee!

But all that aside, we will definitely be back!
