“Exceeded expectations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Got a last minute reservation at the Amethyst Lodge for a saturday night during Jasper in January and was circumspect about what the stay would be like. We normally book at the Marmot Lodge or Chateau Jasper when staying with Moutain Park Lodges. I had stayed at the Amethyst Lodge many years ago and the rooms were tired, and the trains noisy all night. But I got a standard room on the 3rd floor at the back of the hotel. While the room and bathroom were compact, it was more than adequate for a single traveller. Both the room and bathroom had been recently renovated, including a re-tiling of the bath surround. I had no concerns with the housekeeping or maintenance of the room. The hotel does not have an exercise room or pool, and the hot tubs were full of youngsters, so simply I walked 3 or 4 blocks to the excellent and well priced Jasper Fitness and Aquatic Centre. I heard no noise at night despite the hotel being full with skiers and hockey players. Overall it was very good value for the price - $108. The buffet breakfast on Sunday morning was also very good although difficult to find serving staff.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter.

“OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

Stayed here in November 2009, location was ok but didn't really like the hotel rooms, they seemed a little dated and the beds were quite uncomfortable. The room could of been a little cleaner.

Breakfast was good and good price too.

“Decent for the price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

We booked the hotel "through" living social (2 nights for $128 w/ breakfast) The room was decent, had a living room and a bed room. But the carpet looked gross (no "stains" but just looks dirty) but the couch and bed were good.

The staff were friendly, but when I went inside to tell them that a guest had left their interior car light on (which i know would kill the "hard to find" battery, cause i have the same car) they front desk lady looked at me as if I was retarded, and didnt know what I was talking about. I assumed that since you are required to write down your make and model of your vehicle when you check in that it wouldnt be too much effort to look through the paperwork to see if they could find out who it belonged to, considering the consequences. But they didnt seem to care. We were on our way out for dinner when we noticed it and reported it to the front desk. When we returned a few hours later it was still on.

Our room was kind of noisy since it was right underneath the stair well but nothing that kept us up, and certainly not late (9pm)

All in all, considering the price i would give it 2-2.5 / 5

“Stay in a nice room without breaking the bank.”

Though we don't ski there were plenty of skiers about. We could hear them during the later part of the evening but come bedtime they appeared to need their rest too and so we got two nice nights of rest on very comfortable beds (always an issue for me). Everything was clean and inviting and I will very likely stay here again.

“Ok- Noisy guests”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

If you're just staying in Jasper for a few days and passing through, I recommend staying here as it is one of the "cheaper" places in Jasper. Yes, everything is over-priced in Jasper, but some of the other hotels are ghastly overpriced. If you're tired enough after a day of snowboarding, you will sleep no matter what.
