“Great for a budgeted traveler”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

This hostel is great if you are on a budget but still want to explore the great outdoors that is Jasper. However, it is a bit hidden and far away from the town center, which makes it a hazel to get to places if you don't have a vehicle.

The Sleep

Majority of the beds are in the basement in a semi-partitioned room. Each partition has 4-5 bunk beds in it. In my section there was very poor lighting and I needed the flashlight on my phone to look around. The bed was fairly typical of hostels and i did have a great sleep. Under the bed has a storage compartment large enough to put my pully luggage in it plus a few other items.

Social

The HI-Jasper has a great social space attached to the kitchen. The people were great and i ended up being a tour guide for a few of them (I've been to Jasper/Banff more than 30 times). Internet was available but the signal and speed were quite weak. I was relying on my data plan for most of the time. Note there is no breakfast in this hostel.

Room Tip: There is a shuttle that runs from Jasper Town Centre to the Hostel at a cost. It will be best to ea...

“Location, location, location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

You had better have a car as it is really far away from Jasper, with a gps just to be safe. Good value for the inexpensive price except for the drunks late at night walking around, talking, and turning the lights on for no particular reason. Nobody can control these types of guests though, including yours truly who didn't complain. The staff was actually good pretty good, the place was clean, and damn cheap.

Room Tip: the dorms are dorms, not quiet, and lots of people

“Exceptional Hostel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

This was an awesome hostel. The place was clean and some parts upgraded. THe staff was super nice and it had a little fire pit with plenty of wood and lighting to get up to it. It was right at the base of Whistler Mountain and the tram. It wasn't close enough to town to walk to but we had a rental car so that wasn't a problem for us.

For a cheaper place to stay, considering how much hotels are in the area, I thought this was a bargain!

Room Tip: We stayed in a private room but the communal rooms didn't look bad at all at a glance.

“Bad location and bad service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2011

Definitely not where you should stay while visiting Jasper. The location is very inconvenient, very far from town, and the taxis up here are quite expensive. There are a few shuttles available, but they are not very frequent and stop at 5:30. Also, the staff was, in general, not very helpful nor friendly. Finally, the dorms are very crowded and the sheets offered to us are of questionnable cleanliness. All in all, you're better staying at a bed and breakfast, even if it costs a bit more.
