“Want to see the real Rockies?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2010

HI Athabasca falls was a truely unique place to stay. Once you get past the drop toilets approx 100 m away from the cabins and making the trek out to them in the middle of the night past all the possibly hungry wildlife, the place is a unique way to experience the canadian outdoors. The lack of running water does not dampen the experience and the owner Michel looks like he hasnt had a shower in many more days than yourself so no self concious thoughts allowed. Just make sure you take along your food supplies and eat them indoors away from the threat of bears roaming the bush. Overall and great cheap and worthwhile place to stay.

“No shower..? a small sacrifice”

This place is wonderful. Before you get there you'll be making plans about you're gonna cope with the no shower thing, but the second you get there, you'll melt into the experience, all Mr Frosty like.

Michelle is awesome. The social area is perfect, and the rooms are cozy.

As Michelle says, you could stay in a 40-to-a-room in Jasper, but why would you when you!!

Make the effort, stay here, I promise you'll love it.

“Wonderful hostel out in the wilderness”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2009

Without doubt I would recommend this hostel for getting back to the basics, enjoying the wonderful surroundings and getting away from the city.

The hostel manager treats you like extended family from the moment you arrive and I was only disappointed that I couldn't stay longer!

Definitely would recommend this hostel for those wanting a cheap escape and to be surrounded by natural beauty.

“Quiet, simple and back to nature”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2008

Both HI hostels are not located i Jasper, so you may as well continue out to Athabasca Falls as it is much better out of the two. Only a few dorm rooms (log cabin style) with about 20 beds or so in each. Rooms have heating and linen is provided. Toilets are outside (composte style) and there are no showers. Kitchen is simple but stock up before coming and you will be fine. The manager is quite particular so make sure you do your dishes and dont leave anything lying around! There is a lovely fireplace inside and when there is enough people they have a campfire.
A torch is helpful here.
If you want simple and back to nature this is a lovely place.
